How鈥檚 Winnipeg to live?

How鈥檚 the whether during the year and how is the living generally?

I don't live there anymore but I miss it a lot. It's beautiful in the summer - hot, humid and sunny (usually). I seem to remember there being great thunderstorms most nights in the summer - but that cools things off and gets all the moisture out of the air. By morning it's usually sunny again.

The winters can be quite cold but if you are dressed for it, it's not bad! Some people hate the cold and complain all the time but it's what you make of it. Of course, you don't want to go out when there is a windchill making it feel like it's -50 celcius, simply because your skin can freeze in seconds - but that doesn't happen all winter long - and usually only at night if it does happen.

Life there is great. Since the summer is a time to live and stop hibernating, people are so friendly in the summer and it's so easy to meet people there. If you start up a conversation with a Winnipegger, they will (usually) chat back - or they may try to start one with you because you're a new face lol. Since the winter is a quieter time, that is when you spend lots of time indoors hanging out with the company of your friends.

There are also a lot of festivals in Winnipeg; and they don't just run in the summer. There are so many in the summer I can't name them all but will mention the Winnipeg Folk Festival which is internationally recognized as being one of the best on earth! It's a fantastic time! Another festival is the Fringe festival where you go watch plays and hang out with your friends (and make new ones). There is also Foklorama which is 2 weeks of celebrating different cultures in winnipeg. There is a lot of eating, drinking and watching cutural activities. I miss that a lot! The best winter festival is the Festival du Voyageur which is in February. It's a good excuse for people to get out and see others in the community, even though it's winter. There is a beard growing competition, dog sled rides, partying, maple syrup candy making.... mmmmm

There are lots of pubs and bars in the Peg. Some better than others of course but one of my favs used to be the Toad in the Hole pub. I imagine it's still good and friendly. You'll run into a lot of people there - well I did anyway.

Anyway, I think the people and the activities make up for it being a prairie city. I actually love the prairies but Winnipeg is by far my favourite city. There is so much to do in the summer - lots of world class beaches and you actually have the Canadian shield on the east side of the province - which isn't prairie! there are tonnes of lakes to canoe, water ski, fish..etc.

Hope that helps!
Cheers

The weather can be seriously cold during the winter, some serious winter gear is in need. But during the summer the humidity can be really high and the heat almost deathly! You've got the best of both worlds here.

It's not as bad as everyone says.

The only "bad" thing about Winnipeg, without getting into some heated debates is how isolated we are. It's quite a distance to the next thriving city.

Other than that, we have tons of bars, excellent restaurants, a great zoo, wonderful history, cool shops and some great people.
