what was manitoba promised in exchange for joining confederation?

There were a couple of promises made when Manitoba joined Confederation:

1) The Metis were promised land in exchange for Manitoba joining Confederation. This did not happen and many Metis went to Saskatchewan.

2) The bigger promise made though was the completion of a railway to join the east and west of Canada
