Wellington is the capital of New Zealand.Is the city north or south of40s?

its north or south

Wellington:
Latitude = -41.2869, Longitude = 174.7774
Lat = 41 degrees, 17.2 minutes South
Long = 174 degrees, 46.6 minutes East

i.e., it's south of 40 south.

I don't know what 40s is, but I can tell you that Wellington is in the southern part of North Island.

Wellington takes up right along the bottom of the North Island. It is a 3 hour ferry trip from wellington to the top of the South island. It's a really nice city with lovely shops boutique style a cable car that takes you up to a lookout of wellington and to the most superb botaanical gardens. Well worth a visit ,if you strike good weather.

Wellington is situated on the bottom of the North island. You can see the South Island from certain parts of the North Island (Khandallah, Karori).

I know that 45 south is just north of Oamaru in the South Island, so its around 40oS I guess.

Wellington is beween 41 and 42 degrees south.

His answer probably came directly from Google Earth.
Look it up for yourself at www.googleearth.com
It will even show you the height above sea level of the various suburbs and places of interest.
If you don't check it for yourself, accept his answer as the only one worth accepting.
