Have fun in windy wellington.

I lived in NZ for 5 years .I hated it so much.....Be careful...as people are very good at ripping off tourists and foreigners.....They show off so much their NZ to others but that is because they want to get more and more of your money....they bring you down to bring themselves up.......but deep iside they are greedy and just want to steal your money...this is what a typical kiwi is.

gidday doug. depends on what you are into but here's some ideas....

-hiking in the hills around wellington (great views of the harbour and city)
-mountain biking same hills(you can hire one)
-lots of shops/cafes to visit
-lying on a beach (in late january it can be quite warm and there are 3 or 4 good beaches only 5-10 minutes from the city)
-great music scene after dark with clubs, pubs and outdoor events (incl outdoor movies etc)
-extreme bungy down on Taranaki Street
-take a ferry trip to Soames Island and Eastboune accross the harbour
-Te Papa is the national musuem on the waterfront. it has lots of interesting displays/shows, and it is free.
-if you are into watersports, Wellington is a great place to go sailing or windsurf
-go to an event at "the caketin" - sports/concerts- great atmosphere
-check out many spots where scenes from The Lord of the Rings movies were filmed.
-the waterfront is a great place to sit at one of the outdoor bars and check out the local scene.
