Are all the Dinosaurs REAL at the Smithsonain Museum in DC ..they didnt look like it!? |
They looked like fake, ...I thought it was suppost to be real dinosaurs. Or are they? Thanks! In many museums they are casts made from the real thing at the University of Utah, however, many are the real deal. You would have to read the description or ask an employee. well, from waht i know they would clean it up a little bit ( you know, chemical baths and other) so it looks fake but its not No, they are just castings The dinosaur skeletons are partially real bones (or casts made from the real bones), and partially modern recreations of bones. They are mounted on frames built by the museum to hold the bones upright. Define "real..." Most of the bones in the skeletons are castings. It depends from dinosaur to dinosaur and bone to bone. The Triceratops that the museum has is the most "real"- about 30-40% of the skeleton is actual bone. The large plant eater in the main display is the least real. I believe that it's 100% castings. However, those castings are made from the actual bones of several skeletons. While you're not looking at actual fossilized bone, you are looking at what those bones look like exactly... |
