Need some more help about Washington DC?

I asked a question a while ago about finding a hotel in the DC area. I think we found one, but we are unsure on how transportation will be. We want to be able to leave our vehicle at the hotel and use the metro to get around DC. We are looking into the Red Roof Inn, located in Springfield Virginia. It's about a mile on the bus to the metro station, and then that will take us into the city. Approx. how much are we looking to spend on the metro to get around for the day then?
BTW, the room we are looking at is 80/night.. I think that seems rather resonable, especially because it has good customer reviews on Expedia.. Does that sound like a decent price? Thanks all!

Metro fares (train) run from $1.65 to almost $5.00 per trip, based on distance and time of day.

Springfield metro to Smithsonian is $2.35 during regular hours and $4.00 during rush hours. There is a daily pass, for 7.80, which is good from 9 or 9:30 till the end of the day - which can save you some money when you are traveling on metro every day.

It is possible the bus ride could cost an additional up to $1.20.

Traveling by metro is very economical and easy. (not very sure for very busy touriest days). Check out if your hotel is providing free shuttle to metro station. metro takes you to most of the tourist attractions. take daily pass.
If so, it will be a plus. I checked on red roof inn site, it says $89 for apr11 weekend and do NOT mention of shuttle. I have posted similar Q here for hampton inn. their site says free shuttle. you may want to check out that. a small but useful input- hampton inn give free breakfast, good review too. hope this help.

Metro stops at tourist sites FYI:

http://www.stationmasters.com/System_Map...

White House - get off at Farragut West station (17th Street exit)

Capitol - get off at Capito South station

Pentagon - get off at Pentagon station

National Mall/ Smithsonian - get off at Smithsonian station.

For eating - get off at Gallery Place station

I would try to find one in Alexandria instead of Springfield. Alex. is only 15 minutes or so from DC so traffic wouldn't be a problem if you did want to just drive around and sightsee. Also they have a metro called Huntington. Springfield can be a very confusing place to drive around and it's further away. You can find plenty of decent places off of Route 1. Good Luck and have fun!!
Almost forgot about the metro cost. I really don't remember how much it is but for like 4 people I believe it would be around $10 round trip.
