Washington, DC Area?

I am going to be a student at Howard University this fall. I have heard that DC is dangerous and though I have been through a few times, I haven't gone sightseeing or anything. I don't want to go to an area that is dangerous because i want my college years to be fun.

Northwest Washington is the safest part of the city, and it's also where many of the best neighborhoods are - also right on the Metro (subway) as well, on the Red Line. I grew up in the DC area and if I ever move back that's where I would want to move to probably. So I would stay in those areas. Congratulations on getting into Howard University, that's a very good school.

it is dangerous wherever u go

It is not dangerous everywhere you go. It is a beautiful city and there is plenty to do if you know where to stay away from. Southeast DC is very dangerous, and there is a very high crime rate. But the western half of the city is beautiful and very wealthy. I have lived in this area for over 8 years, and I have never gone to SE DC. Thus, I have never seen anything suspicious or felt unsafe. If you stay near the national mall and to the Western part of the city, you will be just fine. Howard is in the northern part of the city, and it is not as nice up there as it is in the west and the National Mall area, but it is not bad. If you know where to stay away from (SE), then DC is a great place to live with plenty of opportunities for employment, entertainment, etc.
