Dress code for Wiener Philharmoniker?

Is there a formal dress code for attending a concert of Wiener Philharmoniker? I'm a backpacker and it will be quite troublesome for me to bring the suit with me.

Tourists in the standing room at the Musikverein will wear jeans and t-shirts, but you'll feel out of place dressed like that if you have a seat. The Viennese will put on a real fashion show, including some traditional rural costumes, but you will be just fine if you have a pair of khakis and a nice shirt. I personally would go with black pants and a black shirt -- the more black you wear, the less conspicuous you'll be. I had a Stehplatz subscription one year and never wore a tie, though I often wore a jacket. Be warned, though, if you have a standing ticket: it gets hot back there this time of year, so short sleeves aren鈥檛 a bad idea.

Evening Wear. Black Suit and Bow Tie. You can Hire the Suit for the Night dont bother bringing one with you. Ask the Austrian Embassy in youre Country for Information on Hiring Evening Dress Suits and Bow Ties and Prices .

As long as you go neatly dressed, you should be fine.

The Vienna Philharmonic's mission is to communicate the humanitarian message of music into the daily lives and consciousness of its listeners. The musicians endeavour to implement the motto with which Ludwig von Beethoven, whose symphonic works served as a catalyst for the creation of the orchestra, prefaced his "Missa Solemnis" - "From the heart, to the heart".

With a philosophy like this, you should be fine as long as you with a love of music in your soul.

That said, if you are going to a special opening you might want to contact the orchestra directly and ask.
