Holiday......venice or florence, please?

Venice

If you like shopping then Florence is the ideal place.

Venice - Having said that I have heard the canals really smell.

it depends - venice is stunning though i do agree the canals do smell - florence is good for shopping - mind u both are rather pretenious

go to tuscany - the food and the weather are stunning

Florence; BEAUTIFUL Place great city to visit. Venice, the last time I went slight odor every where we went. Even the famous Gondola Rides were not what we expected due to also the odor.

florence...its a magical place
not that venice isnt but itll be too crowded...too many tourists, u wont have time to relax...
florence!!

Venice or Florence ?
What a wonderful decision to have to make !.
I would go for Venice first, before it gets even more "touristy", Florence you can do later on in your life.
I know and love both Cities so come back here if you need more help
Enjoy !

I wasn't too impressed by Venice - although it's beautiful, it's spoilt by too much tourism. I felt like I was on one big tacky fairground ride - every second shop sold murano glass and masks for tourists and everything is overpriced. Having said that, I'm glad to have seen it - I just wouldn't go again.

Florence I haven't been to yet, but most people I've spoken to seem to prefer it there.

I'm italian, and I suggest you Venice.....maybe the most beautiful city in the world.

I live two hours from both Florence and Venice and visit both frequently. Either are great places to visit. I particularly enjoy Venice when there's a special event going on - Carnevale, the Biennale, a regatta, or best of all Il Redentore (July). The choice really depends on your particular interests. However, if I had to choose one, I would go to Florence first - an make it a point to make a reservation to see the Uffizi. There is a lot to see and do in a relatively small area of the city and there are more opportunities to make side trips outside the city (Pisa, Lucca, Siena, Rome, Arezzo, ... all easy day trips). Both are easily walked. Florence is also more affordable if you're on a budget.

Hi, I'm italian, If you want to visit a city unique in world you have to go to Venice, it's a very romantic place!!
Even florence is very beautiful but less feature.
Sorry for my english!!!

Avoid Venice in summer, it is a disaster zone, prices in restaurants double.A beautiful place, but canals are truly overated.
Forence absolutely without a doubt. Hands down choice. I have stayed at Hotel Brunelleshi Florence several times. http://www.hotelbrunelleschi.it/
Booked through yahoo travel about $200 per night. Take a taxi from train station, they will find it for you, otherwise it is a bit tricky the first time.
Book tickets to major museums online, you will skip the ticket ques (about an hour saved)
Eat at La Giostra www.ristorantelagiostra.com book a reservation, you will need it. A bit pricey, worth every Euro

both places are a must. It's really easy to take the train from point A to p B.

i would say just go to venice for a day or so and then go to florence by train. there is so much to do & see in florence. and probobly the best shopping, markets, food, people, and sights can be found there!

If you have time, do both. :)

Seriously, if I had to pick just one, it would be Florence. But really, it depends what you're looking for. If you want museums and art and awesome food, go to Florence. Yeah, Venice has some museums, but Florence's are better. And of course, it's possible to find good food in Venice but the food in Venice is notoriously mediocre. Don't get me wrong I do love Venice. It's probably more romantic (if that's what you're looking for) -- e.g., you can do the gondola thing. But Venice is also more expensive.

Also, from Florence you can also head out of town and explore other parts of Tuscany (the hill towns, chianti, pisa, siena). From Venice... well, there's not much to see in Mestre.

I heard about the canal smell that other people mentioned, but I've been to Venice twice (Aug 2002 and Oct 2007) and didn't notice any smell. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Definetly Florence
There are many more things to visit is more beautiful
Venice is a little sad and very expensive

i'm italian.. i come from Genoa, so i said Genoa.... but between venice and florence it is a difficult choice because they are two different city, and venice is as beautiful as florence.. depend if you want to come in a romantic place, venice, but if you prefer a artistic place, florence.... sorry for my bad english, but i'm studying it and i am not very good so... hi!!!
VIVA L'ITALIA, FORZA GENOA!!! VIVA I GENOVESI!!!!
