We operate an online recruitment company in Dubai. In your opinion, do you think having a photo upload option is a good idea?
How would this affect chances of a person applying for a job?
Could this have negative impact on some applicants?

Very good points made there.
I needed to hear outside comments on this issue. We've been recieving requests from our members to add this feature.
What about a persons appearance (personality etc...)

Mainly the effects are going to be negative..here is why..
A lot of people are not photogenic, therefore if someone was rejected they might blame it on their looks or the fact that your company is picky and you only care about appearance..simply because nowadays appearances are everything (sadly).

I don't think it would be a good idea. Some folks might perceive this as some type of racial, sexist, or ageist screening which would violate hiring laws here in the U.S.

No I don't forsee this as being a good idea. The company should not need to see the applicant as they should not be judging by looks.

Sometimes a very much skilled person may be rejected due to his/her photo.
Specially in a case where u have 2 or 3 options to select one among them, a recruiter will definitely go for a good looking person. So I think it's not a good idea to upload photos.

Honestly having a photo is a discrimination of some sort. I am guilty but I am pretty sure almost everyone is, sometimes you just take the person's appearance in the equation. Sometimes you are inclined to call an "attractive" person just to see if there is some brain to go along with that beauty even if the CV is not as qualified as per your requirements. In the same way, you would think twice to call in an applicant that may not be pleasant-looking.
