What is your experience?

Due to parking problems I take a cab when I have to go somewhere at night. Now we have the new cabs. I do not care about the fast ticking meter and I do not mind to pay a little bit more money.
But what's about the drivers? Did you see any change in their behaivior just because they wear pants and shirts? I do not.

What's your experience with the new cabs and their drivers?

Bad!

I don't use taxi much. It was few weeks back when I used the service. The taxi drivers are horrible.

I took this cab from Ghusais to my office in Dubai Media City. The moment I got in he started cribbing about the route that I asked him to take. But he was happy that it was a long trip for him. Just as I reached Mamzar, my office driver called me and said he is nearby he can pick me up. There was no point paying so much so I decided to get off.

The taxi driver got furious. He said you've to pay me the fare till media city now. I was nice to him, I did apologize and I told him that I'll give him some extra money. It was morning time and I didn't want to get into unnecessary arguments. Just because I was nice to him, he started to talk all nonsense. 16 dhs was in the meter, I paid him 50 bucks and ask him to keep 20 and return 30. He kept the money and kept on with his nonsense, and in between he kept on using abusive language in hindi. That was it! I couldn't take it anymore. I asked him to return my 30 bucks and get out of my sight before I call cops.

I took his cab no. and decided to complain to RTA. Later on while discussing with colleagues, they said leave it, he is a poor guy, he has to pay some fine coz of you. But I wanted to put in a few words against the behavior of taxi drivers to RTA thru their website.

RTA has a section for taxi complaints. But I'm sure they don't get a SINGLE complaint! You can fill up everything on the form provided on the site, except one... "Incident Date" and if you don't fill it, you cant submit the form. Its just sad!

So that day, I did listen to a cabbie's nonsense, I did pay him some extra money. But next time, I'll make sure they suffer for it! For what he did to me, he'd do it to someone else next day. Its better they learn it hard way. Its just useless to be nice these days.

They are the same, fliting from one company to other. I can discuss in more detail if u contact me via e-mail. bye

Ok, here is one incident.
I took a cab from the Airport. This fellow opened the door for me and put my luggage in the cab, because he wanted me to ride with him and not with the other cabby.
When I arrived at my place, I really wanted to give him a tip.
The guy never bothered to get off the car, he switched the trunk open and I got off, took my luggage and paid him his fare (no tip of course),
and I did not bother to close the trunk of his cab :) ..... now he can't switch the trunk closed.
So he had to get off his lazy assss and close the trunk and drove offffffff......

well frankly speaking i rarely take a cab and i always prefer to use my car instead only in speciallcases at night, but from what i hear from my friends that their behaviour has improved but not really much.
depending on each and every personallity so we cant judge all of them at the same time...

i don't actually use taxis as i drive my car and have another family car .. but it seems fine with me .. i asked my brother the same question about drivers .. he don't know too .. so until i experience this I'll let you know ..

and about the parking problems .. use the underground parking areas .. about 200M from work so its like a morning exercise for me .. I'm fearing summer times from now .. there's no way we can park a bit far away due to humidity !!

anyways .. good thing that taxi drivers belong to a company .. take action if you have any issues ..

good luck =)

Hi H,

I think you refer to Abu Dhabi Taxi experience or does apply to Dubai as well ?

My personal experience with taxi drivers are only whenever I'm arriving from my overseas business travels and the last one I've got (I was coming from Bahrain) is a nasty one. Dubai Airport Taxi Drivers are choosy and tend to pick Europeans and other white-complexioned passengers rather than asians (that's profiling to me). And for a very simple reasons - none of those stay close (like Deira or Bur Dubai) but rather in the Greens or Jemeirah of Umm Suqueim etc. Otherwise - they know what to do to get a tip whenever it's a hotel trip.

I lost my temper with a taxi driver when he started to complain that my route is just merely a 10 minutes drive from the airport and he was suggesting that I should have tried the bus or the illegal taxis (at 1am !!!). Yes he got a good uniform and a scented taxi - but the attitude is still the same.

Dubai is already receiving a very bad image internationally when it comes to taxi driver attitudes and rudiness and unless the authority is bent on curbing this problem - it will escalate to the point that the very essence where Tourism is the cornerstone where Dubai is built - is the same cornerstone where the dream shall be rested.

Happy joy ride H - and \happy New Year as well !!!

I really try to avoid taking a cab here. And if I must I don't tip by default anymore. They are often so rude. And it is an outrage that they truly think they can refuse to take people to certain destinations. The point when I decided to never ever take a cab again was when I was 9 months pregnant in the summer heat, and three cabbies refused to take me from Dubai to Sharjah.
I walk now when ever I don't have to go long distance, that has the positive side effect that I also get some excersise that way.
I ahev learned that one can complain now , should a driver refuse to take you to any destination, just call the number printed on the cab and name the car number.

Tolerate for our sake .
