Hi everyone! As most of you know, I am currently pregnant with my third child. I went to the doctors today and he said that it's still too early to be 100% sure of the gender, but it 80% most likely a girl!
So, I would like some suggestions for names of girls. I want a name that would fit easily in both Mexican (I'm half Mexican) and Arab (my husband) culture. Oh a girl - I knew it. Congratulations, Tunisian belle.
Choosing a first name is very important, we respond to our christian name throughout our lives.
People associate us with it,and it forms part of our identity. Our first name help to distinguish us from one to another. Other people gain immediate and sometimes totally subconscious views of people, just from hearing their name.
Therefore our first name can give us a distinct advantage (or disadvantage) in life.
Choosing a baby girl name is incredibly important.
I think you're aware of that already though.
I personally have always liked Mirabel (pron: MEE rah bel), it means: lovely; wondrous
Marisol is lovely too but it's meaning is less so: Maria of the Sun; lonely Maria. Mona

I had fun to unearth the common names between the Arab culture and that Spanish (Mexican, Latino..) and I acknowledge that I was surprised by the similarities.. finally.. these various cultures resemble each other more than they taught it to us on the benches of schools !
I tried to find on Internet some Andalous first names.. unfortunately I didn't find.. Andalusia remains the place of fusion between the Occident and the East by excellency!

MARYAM / MIRIAME >> it's the arab name of the Blessed Virgin mother of Jesus Christ.. may peace be with them (Moslems believe in Jesus.. his resurrection and the Blessed Virgin) >> the Blessed Virgin in arabic means : BATOOL / BATUL.. it's a pretty and cool name which is currently "脿 la mode".
a by-pass (d茅viation > fr) of Mariam gave MARAM : who means aspiration / hope.
LINDA >> is also a very widespread name in Tunisia.

I found a Latin similar name : Ulyssa who means "walken".. that remind also the famous Ulysse the goddess.

I found on Internet that this name has also a Spanish origin (can be through Andalusia) !? it has also a kind of Christian stamp in Latin America (especially in Brazil I believe)?!
LA脧LA >> in occident you have Romeo and Juliette.. here we have the legend of Ka茂s and La茂la :)
this name evokes the platonic love in his noblest sens and most tragic !! it's the first name of the first-lady of Tunisia.. and it means : dark beauty, night.
By the same way there is "LILYA".. who resembles - into Spanish - to Lelia or Lilia.
2- COMMUN LATINO-ARABIC FIRST-NAMES OR WHICH RESSEMBLE EACH OTHER :
On the top :

check out babynamesworld.com In fact it's a difficult question as I haven't had any children yet but I'll try to answer you :
1- Salma - It's an original Arabic name, with musical effect and for a half Mexican mom, you can't ignore the most famous and beautiful star: Salma Hayek!
2- Rym - In Arabic it means the gazelle (even the word gazelle is driven from Arabic).
3- Amira - In Arabic means Princess but I don't know if it's so common in Tunisia.
4- Karma - In Arabic means the grapes tree, not so commonly used but it's a nice one (could be thought like Indian).
5- Finally, I recommend you: Thoraya (in Mexico Soraya) in Arabic means The bright chandelier.
Have a very peaceful and comfortable pregnancy and labor.

Marisol, or Maribel are not common to be used in this area of the world. I think the chosen names should match both cultures and to keep the child feels normal among her counterparts in school, club and ... etc Ohh I just saw this question!
Frida, (Like the famoust Mexican painter Frida Khalo)
Jimena or Ximena, the wife from "El Cid"
Selma, is nice
Barbara, I like the three r's
My mind froze, if I think of something else I come back
:-) Congratulations!
Mona
Sarah
Maryam
Salma (its an arabic name, but is also the name of half mexican hlaf lebanese actress Salma Hayek)
