Lets talk hair?

where can i go to have my hair done in tunisia? can i get it colored like i can in USA? also are there gym's there? and swimming pools outside the hotels, like public pools? thanks

You can get your hair colored here in Tunisia just like in America. I personally like they way they do it here better. Cost will depend on what type of coloring (coloring and highlights, or just color), how long your hair is, and where you get it done. I have gone to regular hair dressers, but found that my favorite place to go is an esth茅tiques place. It costs about 10TDN more than a normal hair dresser, but the environment is nicer, they offer more things in way of beauty so I can spend a day there and feel relaxed!

At a normal hairdresser, a cut is 5TDN, just brushing your hair (styling with brush and blow dryer) is 2TDN, color is between 25-40TDN depending on the length of your hair(includes shampoo of course and blow dry and styling), color with highlights is 30-50TDN depending on the length of your hair(includes shampoo of course and blow dry and styling). You can also have your eyebrows plucked for 2TDN.

For me at a normal hairdresser I pay 40TDN for color, highlights, a trim, blow dry and style. My hair is about waist length.

Prices are a little higher at the place I go, but like I said, the environment is nicer, and they offer more things in way of beauty so I can spend a day there and feel relaxed!

There are gyms and public pools here. I will tell you that you have to be careful because not all of them are clean. I think in Monastir, there is only 1 gym that is clean and very good. The others are good too, but not as clean. Normal prices from gyms are 25TDN a month, plus a one time insurance fee of 5TDN. Public pools are not up to the same standards as hotels, so be careful on those too. You have your good ones along with your bad ones. The one in Monastir is actually good. Normal prices for public pools are 1.500-2TDN each use.

My best advice to you is go and check out the public facilities first. If you like them, then okay. If you don't, go to a hotel. They offer good prices (my husband has a membership at a hotel that cost 30TDN a month which included use of the pool, the hammam, the sauna, the showers, the exercise and weight room.

If you'd like, I'd be happy to show you around to some good spots in Sousse. I used to get my hair done at a famous hairdresser in Sousse who studied in Europe and the USA. He's a bit more expensive then the others (60TDN for cut, color, shampoo and style), but worth it. I can also take you around to some of the gyms and pools there as well as a few good hotels so that you can see the difference and judge for yourself what you like.

I am an American woman who has been living here 5+ years, I go to any caf茅 I want to with my husband or with my girl friends. Most caf茅s are joint sex caf茅s except for the rare few in small towns.

I wear shorts and tank tops in the city outside of the touristic part. I also wear open toed sandals, above knee length dresses, and so do most girls I know.

Not I or any of my friends that I know have ever gotten harassed on beaches and we wear bikinis or bathing suits that are high and low cut. And our men, when they go with us, have never had to protect us.

If you don't want to be harassed, the simple solution is just to ignore the person. The only time they harass you is if you talk to them, even if it's to tell them to leave you alone.

Don't know about the womanly things or the gyms. But this I know:

1. The outside cafes are only for men
2. Only in the touristic cities you may get away with showing some bare body parts (legs, arms, etc.)
3. On the touristic cities you can show up on swimsuit although their women bath with the whole robe.
4. On the beach be aware that the persistent Tunisian men will tend to harass you and sit by your side and usually don't take no for answer. Sometimes even a male companion does not keep them away.

Hi I live in Sousse, Tunisia. I was very hesitant about having my hair done here in Tunisia, but recently visited a salon and they coloured my hair beautifully in fact a lot better than in England, it cost me 120 dinar for all my colour, cut and blow dry. They were very nice and really helpful.

There are public swimming pools here in Kantaoui which are maintained well, do be careful but there is nothing wrong with visiting the public pools.

I have the normal problems of the tunisians trying to talk with me, but as long as you do not play up to them of course if you do not want to, you will have no problems with Tunisia.

Take care Kelly
