Does anyone know anything about Sousse in Tunisia? If you do can you please give names of sights I can see?

Sousse is one of the older cities in Tunisia, and possesses an authentic medina, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988.

GREAT MOSQUE. It is a surprisingly tranquil place despite its location in the middle of the city. Built around 850 AD, the mosque is simple and done in the Aghlabite style; no decoration whatsoever aside from a string of angular Arabic and curved arches. Even the prayer room is covered in reed mats instead of the usual carpet. You must be properly dressed to enter, but green wraps can be rented for a token fee to cover up.

MOSAIC MUSEUM. Located in the gently crumbling old kasbah on the edge of the medina.

THE TRADITIONAL TUNISIAN HOUSE. This charming little museum is located within the old city walls some 200 yards north of the main bus terminal is the home of a long standing Tunisian family that has now become a museum with the passing of the last family member. The property centers on a open courtyard from which access to all the rooms can be gained, including bedrooms for the first and second wife and, in turn, to the children's rooms. All are delightfully fully furnished, with some curtains dating back 200 years, and with German clocks imported from the 1800's. The house is complete with a tower, orginally used to watch the stars fror the onset of Ramadan, from which views over Sousse can be gained.

PORT EL KANTAOUI http://www.portelkantaoui.com.tn/english... is a tourist complex 10 kilometers north of Sousse. It is home to a modern marina equipped for over 300 boats and several golf courses, as well and a full array of other sporting activities from water skiing to paragliding. The 36-hole PGA approved championship course makes Port El Kantaoui a popular destination for golfing. http://www.kantaouigolfcourse.com.tn/ The architecture, although modern and dazzlingly white, has been modeled on the more traditional buildings in Tunisia, complete with narrow streets and arches. The hotels that line the beachfront extend from Sousse itself along miles of sparkling clean sea to Port El Kantaoui. There is a new water park called Aqua Palace where there are many different types of water rides and fun things to enjoy.

HANNIBAL PARK. It's an amusement park that has a famous roller coaster and has many souviner shops.

HERGLA KARTING PARK. It is another amusement pak and offers lots of fun. There is one ride on there that is extremely fun, but not for the faint of heart! I've been on it - it takes you high in the air, and turns you every which way, and even stops and let you dangle for a bit.

CATACOMBS. Nice to visit if you like history. I do, so I found them very interesting and enjoyed them very much.

Sousse also has great nightlife with many restaraunt, discos, caf茅s, and plenty of shopping! The coast has good beaches and a clear turquoise sea - perfect for swimming. You can also take carriage rides throughout the city which is always a fun way to sight-see!

That's just to name a few of the highlights. Once you get to the city yourself I'm sure that you will find many things that fascinate you. Tunisia is a land filled with much culture and history. And keep in mind that what interests one person, may not interest another, so everyone gains a different experience.

Sousse is a very nice place. There is a Medina there is a very nice market in little streets where you can buy everything, there is a beach near the big hotels, a lot of restaurants with good food and cheap.People are very friendly. You can make tours, very nice to go to the desert. Go also to the north, very good to travel with busses

Sousse is a historic working port with tourist zones and activities as well as a lot of heritage. It has a 9th century medina (old walled city) with an ancient ribat (watchtower), Great Mosque and some good museums. Sousse Archaeological Museum is in the old Kasbah and has a fine collection of Roman mosaics. Dar Essid Museum is an authentic preservation of a merchant's house, with a roof cafe that gives great views over the city. Guidebooks will tell you about the other features. These were the highlights of my time in the city.

Souuse is ok been to tunisia twice just back in november monastir is better with more things to see ie tombs ,the castle which was featured in monty python etc also has a brill saturday market but remember they try to rip you off so haggle for everything even the taxi fare, but you are better sticking to the local goverment shop called the yasmina center where prices are fixed and they dont rip you off hope this helps but be careful in souuse while we where there 2 women where mugged and robbed so be careful

I've never been so I can't tell you from experience, but I found a great site about it http://www.trivago.co.uk/region.php?&ref... which will tell you all about tunisia from people who have been there. Hope this helps.

You can spend hours in the medina- covered market. Haggling for stuff is the norm, never pay their asking price. Near to the really old mosque, if you want to go see that.

It's at the coast, so plenty of sun, sea and sand.

People made us very welcome - some took us into their homes, which I see as a big privilege.

You can walk everywhere, we felt really safe. Otherwise, despit its great ancient heritage, just absorb the atmosphere, you don't need a long list of places to feel that you've been there. Try and eat with the locals too, it's more authentic than your hotel food for tourists.

HI KLM !...... Good evening every body,

Well i don't have too much to add, thanks to our dear Friend Hassen who is as usual ready to give the Tunisian prospects visitors, detailed information's.
You have also some suggestions from our former guests, every one gave his appreciations about Sousse and Tunisia in general.
The only thing I would like to add is that you will have several options and many things to see + the warm hospitality and the security remaining from ages in the land of the Carthaginian Hannibal.
For more informations about Tunisia in general may I suggest you to visit this site :www.tourismtunisia.com
Welcome to Tunisia in Sousse or anywhere else.
Enjoy your stay and have good time.

Providing they have now cleared up all the rubbish that used to be piled up opposite the El Hana hotel in Skanes this would be the start point to take a ride by say horse n cart to Sousse along the way you will see the usual salt beds plus if you cross into the old towns on route you can see some marvellous architecture where they are building new houses as well as the ones still standing Sousse itself has a good shopping centre & is known for it`s food there are places to see but,as it has been at least 10 years since I was there your best bet is to ask the locals.
