I am moving to tunisia to live want to take household effects but worried will have to pay import taxes? |
I want to take household items from home tv,microwave computer all used and in my possesion for approx 6-12 months You will have to pay import taxes. And they can be steep depending on what you are bringing and the value of it. contact the consulate , when I moved to Spain I never paid anything I moved from UK to Egypt about 5 years ago. The removal company said they checked and I would NOT have to pay import duty as the goods were for my own personal use, they were not new. When the good arrived, I got a message from the removal company that they had confiscated my xerox, because it was a fax/scanner and printer in one machine and as I am not a business I was not allowed to own it! then they charged me such a high import tax that it would have been cheaper to have scrapped the lot in UK and brought new here. The gave me 7 days to pay and said if I didn't they would charge me 100le a day storage and if I didn't pay in 31 days they would scrap the container. My other choice was to pay to have the whole container sent back to the UK. I had to pay because everything I owned was in that damn container. but this isn't EU so maybe its different. Good luck with your move. hope you'll be happy in Tunis |
