What are the buildings in Tijuana made out of?

I'm writing an essay about my visit to Tijuana, and I'm not sure how to describe the buildings. Not the buildings among the main street, but the ones more in the side areas where there were little vendors set up and the streets were all dusty and all the beggars were. Right now I've described them as clay brick. Is this right or is there a better way? Stucco perhaps?

I think you are looking for the areas that are not well constructed. If I'm correct here goes. I'm always interested in how a building is constructed and the safety systems, like exits, fire sprinklers, windows and alarms. I don't want to get caught in an emergency and or trapped.
From my experience between Tijuana to Ensanada the mode of construction is too use the most convenient materials, plywood of any size and thickness, wood pallets, corrugated tin and plastics, heavy duty cardboard, used wood products like 2X2 and 2X4 I've even seen metal studs used. When available Brick and Mortar, some stucco with chicken wire and as little lath as possible. The mortar mix is a lot less structurally sound as what is required in the USA.
For this area there is no building inspection. Building is done the best way with the materials at hand.

Well I us to live there, and i found out that they use a lot of diferents material for constructions, such as, bricks and brick made from dried clay for anciet buildings, they also use mortar and wood for new buildings.

In that zone that you are talking about I think that clay brick is correct.
To build houses and buildings in Tijuana, usually they use concrete blocks, bricks and cement. But recently the construction business has adopted a lot of the "American way of construction" building houses with "American materials", like plywood.
I have to say that we don't like this materials, it feels like they are building doll houses to us, but that's the way Americans live and in some cases it is cheaper.
We are used to building with hard materials.
Of course, in the less fortunate communities of the city there are constructions made with what ever material they can find.

Unfortunately, a lot of people go to Tijuana and only check out Revolucion Ave. and never venture into the real city.
There are great restaurants: Italian, Mexican, Sushi, Chinese, Indian, Greek and many more cuisine specialties.
Tijuana has a lot of coffee shops that serve great coffee and great pastry.
