I'm going to Tijuana next week, I'm a U.S citizen. what do i need for ID.?

That's crazy you will not be stuck as a Mexican trying to smuggle back in to the united states...don't listen to that I'm sure you know that a citizen of the united states can not be Mexican solely on the reason that they are stranded in that country right? Okay, it's true you only need an ID and take it wether you think they will ask for it or not however to get back in to the U.S. you can carry a birth certificate, passport. Yes the majority of the police is understood to be crooked but they will not pull you over and rob you. They may pull you over because you have american plates but that's usually because they want some money. Usually they come up with any kind of bs to black mail you and get your money. This is very common and could go sour for people who don't know this rule. this is called a "mordida" in the spanish language. So just tell them when they give you any beef "Hey hows about I give you a 20 and we're cool" but you know of course you have to be discrete about it. Don't worry you won't get thrown in to jail. It's like basically unofficially legal to bribe a cop over there. 20 $ is about 220 pesos. Just be careful. And no matter what you do, act like you know the country backwards and forwards. Don't act like a tourist if you have any knowledge of how to do that. Just play it cool. Tijuana is a very dangerous city so I've heard.

HOW BOUT AN ID ?

A government issued ID card or drivers license both are issued by the DMV.

The US Government just recently put into effect that all US citizens entering the US from either Mexico or Canada are required to show a valid US passport at time of entry into the US. This regulation has been relaxed as of late due to the inability of the US State Department to meet the requests for either new or renewed passports. I recommend that if you have a passport, you travel with such. Also, for use in Mexico a valid drivers license from any state in the US will suffice for the Mexican authorities. Enjoy your trip.

Passport is the best ID one can have.

For right now, all you need is your driver's liscene to get back into the US...if you are walking across the border, however if you fly or take a cruise ship the rules might be different, i know that they are due to change soon but I don't think it's until next year.
anyways, if you are walking or driving all you will need is a driver's liscence! I've noticed that most of the time they don't even ask for ID, they just ask you if you are a US citizen.

hey you have to be careful going to mexico bcuz the cops are crooked. my friend told me many stories about how they are and others too.. like if they pull you over and see if ur american they would rob you of ur things and u might not be able to make it back in usa which would suck bcuz then u would pretty much be a mexican trying to get smuggled back in the usa..

You would need a valid driver license and your birth certificate they do not like it if you bring a copy. needs to be the orignial! have a safe trip!
