Food /beer in kerala.?

hi, looking to go to kerala this xmas & would like to know what the local food is like( both my wife & i love the english version of indian food, chicken madras,korma,tikka masala etc but we realise keralan food will be nothing like this) & also which beers are available(i'm a big fan of kingfisher indian lager).

how\much can i expect to pay for a meal out , a beer etc.

have a nice journey, the food you mentioned will taste the same in india too, but that are not the kerala dishes, those are the north indian dishes. And regarding beer budweiser is available in kerala, but you wont get it everywhere, kingfisher beer cost u around 75Rs in kerala per bottle and a classic traditional lunch can cost u from 120 and more, depending on the hotels. You can also find 0 star hotels....lolz, which served really tasty ones... but u better try in a good hotel. do you need more?? write to me, am from trivandrum, the capital city of kerala, where the famous beach of kovalam is.

A king fisher beer can costs anywhere from 50 to 200Rs depends on where u going

A meal can costs from 20 to 1000 Rs depends on where u going too

Kingfisher beer is widely available, sometimes in a tea pot.

Try the Kerala fish curry and fried fish, fried chicken ... all nice but if you are shy of spices - ask them to tone these down. You could also get western food on the few occassions when you want to give your stomach a rest. Try the fishing nets & Cashys in fort cochin, Cocoa tree coffe shop in MG road, the attic in marine drive or any of the 2-3 five star hotels available. There are a couple of lounge and one night club options too. Kingfisher is available in most drinking holes.

the food is excellent...its straight from the sea...not straight from the freezer...ha ha!! - its SO yummy. i have never seen king prawns so big in my life...we ask for them to be cooked in lime, chilli & garlic...& they will do that for you. its dirt cheap as well.

curries are lovely & i always have the biryiani rice dishes...so tasty...but there is so much to chose from. not a burger bar in sight...thank goodness!

another tip (lol) - take Immodium tablets with you as everyone tends to get a little upset tummies there...its par for the course.

edit: dinner & drinks...less than a fiver - its amazing value & shows how much we are ripped off here!!
