Why are there so many ladyboys in Thailand. And why are there so many pickpockets in India?

These two questions are unrelated. I know 11 people that have gone to India and have been robbed (and 8 of them have also gotten ill (maleria, TB, stomach viruses, etc). As for the source regarding ladyboys in Thailand...wiki and hundreds of tour/travel sites..its common knowledge that Thailand has hundreds of thousands of ladyboys...But why so many?

These aren't friends of mine...And TB and maleria are not uncommon diseases in that part of the world. Specifically, a woman caught maleria and miscarried due to complications...The stomach viruses are the most common complaint I've heard. but that's not my question...I was wondering about the pickpockets. I'm not assuming that the pickpockets are all Indians. I never asked. I'ver read about bands of thieves and killers that would roam around India during British rule (the Thuggee). Maybe there is a kind of "school" of pickpocketing? just wondering.

I think because here in Thailand Thai people accept them not like in most western cultures. So it maybe not that Thailand has so many, it's because they don't have to hide there sexual preference here. As for India I don't know other then a lot of poor people trying to get money for food to eat.

Can't help on the former part of your question, but on the latterI would say I have stayed in India for approx 10 months over the last 2 years and never been robbed and have never been ill. Maybe I was lucky or your poll of 11 people, are 11 people lacking any common sence?

Malaria is quite serious as is TB and I find it perculiar that you couple such illnesses with a "stomach virus"- do you have something against India. Yes people get ill on occasion, but Malaria and TB? your friends are unlucky or are elaborating on their experiences.

I'm not sure Thailand has that many more transvestite than any other countries, but that doesn't bother me. I'm pretty sure India would have more peple than many countries in the world, I think well past billion by now so the number of thief and other kind of bad people would be multiplied by the fact that there are many more people in India. If you feel these are the things you don't like, try avoid going there. I've never been to India myself, although there are many fascinating things in India I'd like to see.
