Those of you who have been to the Islands in Thailand?

Which one did you like the best and why?

Samui, definitely. I've been to Samed and like it more than any island, but for the fact that there were so many people and too little accommodation and foods, it's not really relaxing as should be.
In high school days, when we gathered a bunch of friends and went there with tents; for the lack of any rented facilities, and had to go for water in Wats, and slept in those temple, Samed was best.
But, with thousand of westerners go naked these days, Samui is much better as it developed much nicer, although more expensive than the old days.
But, if you like more natural and untouristic island may be Koh Kood is better. Well, there are many other island which no tourist and foreigner knows about. I think we like to keep it that way.

Whoever you are, thanks for voting for me.. :) Report It

There are many unique and interesting islands in Thailand. Some with caves, some with white beaches, some with clear water, etc. They are all great for visit.

I liked Koh Samui, but personally I wouldn't spend any more than a week or so there (or on any island).

There is only so much you can do on an island.

There's much more to see and do on the mainland.

KOh Phi Phi because it's paradise...
second Koh Pangang.. nice beaches party atmosphere
third Koh Chaing.. nice white sand beach great place to chill out ( bit quiet) and close to Bangkok(4hrs)

I prefer the small islands, like Koh Mak, Koh Rayang, Koh Lipe, Koh Lao Liang, Koh Nang Yuan, but Koh Kood is also good.
At small islands (like those I mentioned but not on Koh Phi Phi), you can get to experience nature pretty undisturbed by hordes of tourists and the "resorts" tend to be small family-run businesses with personal service instead of large resorts run by multinational corporations with plasticized service.

Koh Samui is a nice place with nice beaches - but many package tourists. It is good for the first days to adapt to the country and the climate.

Then I would go to Koh Phangan (north of Koh Samui with a boat service from Koh Samui). If you don麓t go to the southeast of the island but to the north (I liked the northwest) you will find more backpackers and nice and relaxed places. When I have been there I did not see any bars there.

Another option is you fly straight from Bangkok to Phuket, relax a few days and go then to Phi Phi Islands and stay there a few days. Most visitors of Phi Phi are only daytime tourists and leave with the boat at 3 or 4 pm. After that time the island is wonderful relaxed with nice restaurants and bars (but no nightlife). The bars are more reggae bars etc. But I have been there before the Tsunami and don麓t know about the changes there.

Koh Samet and Koh Larn are near Pattaya and only good if you want to leave the noisy Pattaya for some days. It is not worth to spend more than a very few days.

my choice from most to least:
1. koh samui - beautiful beaches, clear waters, lots to do and see, not too busy nite life but interesting. typical exotic tropical paradise atmosphere. less touristy than phuket
2. koh phangan - less tourist than above and less things to do but u can go beach party.
3. koh samilan - haven for divers. i enjoyed diving and fishing there. clear waters but not much to do in eve.
4. koh phi phi - can be quiet but offer good scenery and beautiful beaches and near phuket.
5. koh tao - small island with less tourist and beautiful beaches. you can easily minggle with the locals.

Phangan - the fullmoon party
PhiPhi - its paradise

samui is too touristy
