Traveling to Thailand and the latest news?

The evening news those two Canadian tourist the man hit in the middle os a shoot out by a stray bullit while on the beach.
There was another shooting also, two Russian women shot at a beach resort while on a vacation in Thailand.
Do you think it is advisable to go there?

There as been a number of killing here recently, the Canadian man in Pai who was killed by a rouge cop and his female friend wounded (all three have been report drunk at the time of the incident. A Canadian man in Ranong killed by a man hired by his wife. In fact in Payatta there have been a number of wife's hiring someone to kill either a boyfriend or husband. A Japanese women who was a tourist (no one knows why she was killed). But I still think Thailand is safe to travel if you don't get involved in drugs, illegal acts, walking alone in unlighted areas, getting drunk and then going home alone. Just use common sense and your be OK.

If security is so high I am sure wives should fel safe from their husbands. Report It

Hey. I am Thai and i go to Thailand about every other year. Dont worry. Thailand is a very beautiful country and security is high. I reccomend for you to go to thailand.

I didn't read about the Canadians. The two Russian's were killed on Pattaya Beach. Bangkok is great! Pattaya is perhaps the worst spot on the planet. Do Not Go to Pattaya.
Do see all there is to see in Bangkok. Do eat fresh cooked seafood. Do sample the local beer and rum. Do watch kick boxing on TV. Go to the huge outdoor flea market on weekends. Do see the temples and shrines. Do ride the bus, subway and skytrain. Do take toilet paper with you wherever you go. Do Not eat raw fish. Do donate some money to the poor.

I live in Phuket since years and never felt in danger even at night. Of course one should avoid the red light districts like Patong and not walk around drunk... Thailand has so much beauty to offer and it would be a pitty not to come here. PS: crime can happen anywhere on this planet!

Those were isolated incidents happened one to 2 years ago. The Russians were killed in Pattaya and was linked to a robbery and they were caught days later.

The Canadians were involved in a brawl with the pub owner who pulled out a gun in self-defence as he claimed. He had been charged.

It is pretty safe in Thailand. There had been isolated reports involving tourists and usually happened due to robbery and in isolated places. If you travel overseas and take necessary precaution to avoid deserted and lonely places, it will be fine for you. There are many tourists arriving and departing daily and majority have good comments and feelings about Thailand. You should go and see what Thailand is about, if you have not been there before.

Two reports of tourists getting into violent strife over 2 years DOES NOT make the country unsafe. There are a lot worse places in the world as fas as violent crime goes - and most are in the "western" countries.

Sure, NO ONE can guarantee that you will not be a victim of crime ANYWHERE. But generally, Thailand is quite safe. Probably safer for foreing tourists than many other countries. Thailand has thousands of tourists arriving there everyday, so it can be cocluded that it is fairly safe.

Just exercise personal and travel safety and some common sense about benig in a foreign country and you will be fine.

Thailand is a fairly large country with plenty of tourists visiting. There are isolated incidences of violence throughout the world but that doesn't make the world an unsafe place to visit. The incidences you mention get international attention because they involve foreigners. Once one source reports them, others feel obligated that they have to report the incidences also. I feel perfectly safe when I visit Thailand. Safety and security are about the least of my worries while there. If you heard all the negative news from your home town/area would you want to visit your home town/area?

And there is no murders in your country of course it is safe to go there.

Thailand is one of the safest place in the world, just be reasonable like in any foreign country.

Plus have fun and chill out you WILL love it !!!!!

OR I WILL KILL YOU

Like anywhere, Thailand has its criminal elements.
But the huge majority of Thais are honest, friendly and helpful.
I have frequently felt (indeed been) threatened in the USA, in the UK and in Australia, but I have NEVER felt threatened in Thailand.
