Do you consider Bangkok a safe place for American children?

I'll be taking my 4 children (age 3-13) to Bangkok for 3 months. One issue with regards to their safety that I keep dwelling on is the potential risk that they would be targets of kidnapping (stemming from the problem of child pornography and sex tourism.) Does this concern bring to mind any thoughts from anyone? General or specific. I have been to Bangkok several times and found it to be a relatively safe and relaxed place. Aside from my wife and my own supervision, we will have a nanny with us to help with the kids. Thanks in advance for any and all thoughts on this matter.

You should have no problem with your kids. I never heard of western children being kidnapped here. Only certain areas of the city is for the sex tourist. Just kept away from these areas. You and your family should have a wonderful time here and not to worry.

to alleviate your worries about child porn/ and child prostitution those children are sold into it, not kidnapped. You might be surprised to find out that these problems are problems for Asian children not white kids, as a general rule. Kidnapping is a problem in the middle east, not a problem here.

I am European and have been several times in Thailand with my children.

The Thais cannot see if I am from Europe or from the US - we are all farang (white Non-Asians).

We always felt safe, only the border area near Malaysia you should avoid.

I have been about 10 times in Thailand but never saw child pornography. That麓s something the feminists and the media like to report about. In reality Thailand is a nice country.

With your children you should not travel to Pattaya where are many bars and nightlife.

Child pornography and sex tourism, as I know, are done by the foreigners heading to Thailand to indulge in, not the locals. So you should be more concerned about the foreigners in Bangkok than the locals.

Otherwise, I know the Thais will adore your kids and will not want to harm them in any way. You will be fine with the kids in Bangkok.

I tend to agree with Ohmy God, America is far worse than America and having been there before you should, yes Pattaya is very different to most Thailand places, but you should also watch out for Siam Square area where young youths do hang around.

Kids are getting more westernised and therefore more violence.

Since they are white kids they will generally attract attention especially if your 13 yr old is a boy so watch out.

On the nanny front you would expect to pay about 6000 bhat but most Americans pay about 9000 baht

Being in bangkok is safe. Avoid pattaya. Children will get spoiled.

Most pedophiles frequently seen/reported on tv and newspapers are mostly whites, so you should be wary about white people, not Thai people.
