How can I stay in thailand for 1 year?

I am 25. Thinking either going to a school to learn the thai language, or opening a business just to get the documentation/excuse I need to stay a year. I can't apply for retirement status because I am not old enough, and I don't have the 250,000 USD to put in a thai bank for that visa either, but I don't need to work either. I stayed in thailand 8 months (5 month expired visa) and I love it over there.

Any ideas? Other than marrying a thai woman that is.

you guys are bored huh

Retirement visa is not an option for you as you say - you need to be 50 or older.

The good news is you can get a one year visa pretty easily though.

You say you don't need to work, so the one to go for is the Cat O Non-immigrant visa. The big advantage of a Cat O is it's very easy to get. The only slight downside to this visa is you will need to exit the country every 90 days and then re-enter - yes even with a one year visa (this is a bizarre feature of the thai visa system). Note that at the end of one year this visa type can't be renewed in Thailand.

If while you are there you decide to teach English or start a business you can upgrade it to a Cat B non-immigrant visa and also apply for a work permit. The advantage of a work permit is you don't need to do visa runs. The advantage of a cat B is it can be renewed in-country.

Creating a company in order to get a Non-immigrant B is possible - but it is the expensive option in my opinion. Some people do it - also there are some expats offering stakes in "shell companies" to allow you get a non-immo cat B. While technically not illegal you need to be very careful about trying to circumvent any regulations in such ways.

It sounds like you over-stayed last time? That's unecessary as the Cat Os are so easy to get.

Your other option is to apply for 3 month tourist visas and exit every 60 days and re-enter - but this works out more expensive than a cat O.

Try smuggling drugs - they will let you stay for the rest of your life !!

Become an inmate by committing a crime.

you can get a non-immigrant visa for one year, and you only need 400,000 THB in a thai bank account and marry a bird for the crack, give her a couple of bucks . You dont need to be married forever just a day or so should do untill you have the paperwork required.

why don't you teach English and study thai language at the same time. For the mean time go there as a tourist , once you landed a job it is easy to get a 1 year non immigrant visa.

Apply for a one-year visa at the Thai Immigration office. You just need to pay the bill for one.

You are only looking for an "excuse" to stay a year and you have already overstayed your last visa.

First of all your passport is already stamped that you are an unwelcomed visitor and scond of all we already have enough of your type in Thailand.
