Generally, what jobs are available in Bangkok other than ESL positions?

I am a 32 year old Canadian expat with some ESL teaching and business training experience but am curious what else some of you might do over there. I love the energy of the city and have some local friends there, so I am anxious to go back soon and try working a stint.

Very limited to be honest.

There are the expat type jobs - but they are rare as hen's teeth these days, and they are most usually found outside of Thailand (advertised in your home country).

Most of the guys I know who are not in the TEFL/ESL game (and it is a game in Thailand in more ways than one) are running internet businesses (offshore from Thailand - very sensible), or in some cases have a business on the ground in Thailand. I also know at least one guy who operates as a consultant out of Hong Kong - but spends most of his time in Bangkok - consulting for overseas (not in-country) clients.

Most of the guys (and there's not many) I know who have actually got a job in Thailand aren't too happy with the ways things work there - the general consensus being if you can avoid getting a job and going for one of the alternatives mentioned you will be a lot happier.

I've personally had some success doing telecommuting work from Bangkok (programming/technical writing)/offshore Internet route.

You might find fee e-book #4 on the page linked to below of interest.

Start a band and work the clubs in Pattaya, Phuket and Samui.
Teach scuba.
