Previously overstayed visa, how hard will it be to get back in?

There was no problem with the immigration officials at the airport. I paid my 20K baht and got on the plane. Thing is, I had an emergency passport.. So that 'stamp' saying that I overstayed is not going to be on the new passport I need. Am I in a computer system? I really doubt this is an issue because I have seen people overstay 8 months, then the next year they were back in the country doing it again. But there could be something I am missing.

There are a lot of people living in Thailand that don't want any more tourists comming to live in Thailand. They say a lot of negative stuff, and make it seem impossible to get into thailand. It is easy to spot you guys, and its pretty pathetic, so just sit this one out if your the type.

Well, my bacground is that of specialized infantry unit in the Marine Corps.. Then my dad passed away and I got a big trust fund. I don't really have any 'skills' other than a college education and experience in warfare. I learned a good deal of Thai my first go over there, and want to learn a lot more. Can I get a job or anything 'productive' with just speaking both languages?

If you were the one to bring this to light, and you paid your fine (or fee) and then departed, then this would not necessarily be a big problem for you.

I'd suggest, however, that if you're truly looking to reside more or less permanently in Thailand, that you begin seeing what is involved in emigrating there. While a segment of the population may not want additional people moving in, keep in mind that the government may in fact be looking for people with your particular background or abilities to become taxpaying citizens.

Good luck in either case!

Not hard at all. I live and work in Thailand, and I have had an overstay of over a year. I left and re-entered the country the same day that I paid my 20,000 baht fine.

As a general rule, if you pay your fine at the border, the Thais are more than happy to take your money and let you come back in the country. You will not even be questioned about it. You are a foreigner, which means you have money to spend. They are more than happy to take it.

Well don't bar a bar, think on where you can budget your money first and try and stick to the budget.
Go on a teaching course would help look to Ajarn.com
Don't fall in love before the first year is out.
