I plan on studying in Thailand this summer, about how many dollars should I bring for 3 weeks?

This will only be for entertainment and some eating out. The hotel and food are included in our tuition.

$500 - 1000

$1000 - It will be about 32,000 Bath You can buy a lot of things with this money. If you like shopping and buy cloth.

Street Food around $1-2 or might be less than $1
Buffet in Hotel $10-15
In the restaurant $6 and up depend on restaurant

Movie Ticket around $3 and up depend on seat you want to sit like home theater at home with sofa that you can sleep $10

You can travel with sky train or subway which cost about $1-3 per trip depend on distance. You can buy day ticket too. I am not sure how much.

Well, according to Lonely Planet guides, you can survive in Thailand with as little as $30 a day, which would make $210 a week.

TIP: Pay things at the price you think its right. I bought something for around $18 only to fnd out that the actual price is $4.

Good Luck :D

Depends on your itinerary. If you want to live like a Thai, you can eat street food for as little as $3 to $5 a day or less. I would track how much you spend at home for 3 weeks to gauge what you would spend in Thailand. The cost of living, if you don't act too touristy, is definitely cheaper there. Also, right now, it is better to bring American cash there to exchange rather than exchanging your cash in the states first. I think the difference between the onshore and offshore exchange rates is a couple of baht which will add up depending on how much money you take. Try to stay away from traveler's checks and ATM's. The fees add up really quickly. Most hotels have room safes so it should be okay bringing cash if you don't carry it all with you.

Bring $2000 USD. Can you survive on much less? Sure! BUT, as you will likely want to do some shopping for your friends back home, and pick some things up for yourself, don't be 'kee nee-ow' or cheap. Put the money in a bank account at home and use a debit/ credit/ or ATM card to take out what you need about once a day.

I can NOT stress enough that the BEST and CHEAPEST way to exchange your money is through your ATM. You will incur fees, most US banks have a $1 USD fee plus a fraction of a percent of the transaction. However, you will always get the true exchange rate, and you will never have to worry about carrying too much money on your person.

If you withdraw more than 5000 baht at a time, you will cover the cost of the transaction.

Tip your taxi drivers about 10 baht (except if you take a taxi from the airport) and they will be more than happy. Otherwise tipping is not a big deal. Some restaurants add tips into the bill (Fuji, MK, most western chains all add 10%), otherwise tipping in restaurants, 20 baht is fine. Never tip at a sidewalk foodstall, and be sure to haggle with vendors before buying something.

The country is really beautiful, if you can get away for a weekend to see some of the sights, you will enjoy your stay here that much more.

Make sure to have a nice camera when you come.

I agree with others who say $1,000 is more then enough. Those who say $2,000 or more must live the high life here.
