What is the weather like in India and / or Thailand during August and September?

I am looking to travel through South and southeast asia during the summer months. I understand that August and September is the monsoon season in much of Southern Asia. After looking up seasonal weather data for some cities like New Delhi and Phuket, I learned that these areas get as much as 10 inches of rain a month during this time. However, these numbers down really mean a whole lot to me conceptually. Can someone tell me what a typical day is like in one of these areas affected by the monsoons? I.e. how many hours a day does it rain? Does it rain everyday? Is it more of a light rain or does it come down in buckets? Does the monsoon season make going to beaches during these months practically impossible? Does the sun come out a few hours almost everyday despite the rain?

Also, I realize that the answer to this question depends somewhat on exactly what city we're talking about, but any experience you have for a particular city affected by the monsoon would help. Thanks

I went to Thailand in september and the weather was alright. It didn't rain everyday. When it did it rain it came down in buckets! It usually only rained for a short time.
You can still do lots in your day without the rain being a major problem. When i went to Phuket there werent many people on the beach because even though it wasnt raining it wasnt sunny..I went during the middle of sept so the weather could of been better then compard to in August. Hope you have a good trip.

In Thailand, it's always hot! It does rain that much at all. My father used to live there and says that there is hardly any rain. He used to live Bangkok.

As you had searched, the Thailand weather will be hot and humid for sure. You are looking t temperature of 32-35 deg C and when it rains during that period, you can expect the downpour to last 30 mins to an hour easily. No telling when it will be sunny or pouring, such is the tropical weather pattern.

Nevertheless you will be rewarded with the nice scenes and food and people when you are there.

Very humid in Thailiand, rained for about six days out of the 20 we spent there (in Aug-Sept 2006) so not too bad.

Haven't been to the rest of Asia yet though so can't help with that!

august is the peak monsoon season in india.september would be a bit less wet.but thingg do not come to a standstill
unless it pours.
fy-= a few years ago Bombay got 37" of rain in just few hours ie 10 years worth of rain Israel get.
