If I travel to Thailand and want to stay longer do I have to pay the airline a penalty?

I am going to Thailand and might want to stay longer then 2.5 weeks. If I change my mind when I am there what are my options? Does the airline charge who a huge amount of money?

coming from united states. seattle

Unless you bought a full-fare unrestricted ticket you most likely will have to pay a penalty. It depends on the fare class (not the cabin class) of the ticket you bought which is denoted by a letter such as y,l, k, etc.. Usually it's not cheap to change your flight if you have a restricted ticket, usually around $100-$200. The price for schedule changes is usually listed in the fare rules when you bought the ticket, if you can't access the fare rules, give the airline a call, they can easily tell you exactly how much any changes will cost.

You can buy one way ticket from low cost airline (Airasia, Tiger)and if you want to return back, find a internet cafe, log in and buy on line. (Two days in advance)

Thailand huh? that's strange. Nothing but johns and chesters go there, right?

Ask the airline.

It's depends on the airline. You should be asking this question to them not here.

You have to check with the airline that you buy your ticket from on their date change policy. It will depend on the type of ticket you buy, whether is it a timed ticket or open ticket. Penalty will differ from airline to airline. No one can give you exact advise, only that airline can.
