Bangkok Temples?

We're planning to go to Bangkok on Feb 23, that's a Saturday. We'd like to visit the following:

grand palace
temple of emerald buddha
national museum
national gallery
Wat Po
Wat Trimitr
Wat Benjabophit
Vimanmek Mansion Museum

We'll be coming from the royal river hotel

We're still thinking if we'll be taking a tour. What's the most strategic way to go to those temples? I've read that most of them are in the same area. Which should we visit first? Which mode of transportation should we take?

Thanks :)

Hi Anne, the Grand Palace and the Emerald Buddha Temple or Wat Phra Kaew as called locally are in the same place. Near to this a few minutes walk away is Wat Po. There are conducted tours in the Grand Palace and Emerald Buddha. Wat Po you are on your own, and it is Thailand centre for massage, you should get your massage at Wat Po too.

Your entry to Grand Palace gives you complimentary access to Vimanmek Mansion too. This is located near your hotel, a couple of junction east of the bridge. So you can visit it on your way back to your hotel. Wat Benjabophit or Wat Bophit is also located in the vicinity of the mansion, just southeast one street away.

Wat Trimitr is located in Chinatown, so may be on the way for you, unless you can make a trip there. Near to Hua Lamphong Railway Station.

As for the National Museum and Art Gallery, they are located on the same location and is just east of the 2nd bridge from your hotel. You can try and see if you can cover so many places in a day. Use this map to see the places, they are all between the Grand Palace and your hotel location:

You can email me if you need more info. Have fun.

You missed one of the biggest and most amazing temples in the world located in the heart of Bangkok, Wat Prakeow.

You should also go to the floating market. Try to do all this on a weekday to avoid the crowds.

There're couple places that are walking distance to each other. Take a shuttle boat and stop at Tha Tian. Visit Wat Po, Grand Palace, Temple of Emerald Buddha, and then walk along Sanam Luang to National Museum, and take a walk under Pinklao Bridge to National Gallery.

Tip: You might want to visit Wat Arun. It's really beautiful and just take a ferry across Chao Pra Ya River from Tha Tian > to Tha Wat Arun.

Then you might have to take a bus to Wat Benjamabophit and Vimanmek Mansion Musem. They're not that far from each other.

Some great advice above already - but my concern is.. it seems you want to see ALL that in a day.

I think you might be cramming it a bit unless you are prepared to get up very early and not really see the place thoroughly.
The Grand Palace itself will take you most of the morning and Vimanmek will take another couple hours (I REALLY recommend Vimanmek mansion - english langauge tour. the mansion is too awesome for words)

With the heat and rest time and lunch - I am not sure you will be able to truly enjoy ALL on you list in ONE day.
You might have have to reconsider picking the best to see.

But that is my opinion. Peanutz may help you better with that. He is probably one of the most experienced person here to give you the proper advice regarding touring places.

    1. Go to a travel agency and check out whats available. Plenty of them all over Phuket. 2. Two weeks is too long in one place, try also going to the North or Northwest for a few days also.
