Taiwan Idenpendent or not?

Just list the reasons y it is or y not

If ur Chinese dont answer because this is Taiwan's matter not China's matter and Chinese will definetly say Taiwan is apart of china

The Republic of China on Taiwan has no territory, and hence cannot be considered an independent nation.

In other words, the ROC on Taiwan does not hold "legal title" to the areas of Formosa and the Pescadores.

The claim that the ROC had sovereignty over the areas of Formosa and the Pescadores up to 1949 is clearly false. There had been no transfer of territorial sovereignty of these areas to the ROC at any time prior to this date. In fact, in 1949 the post-war peace treaty had not yet come into effect!!

The acceptance of the surrender of Japanese forces was done according to the directions of US General MacArthur. In General Order No. 1 of Sept. 2, 1945, MacArthur directed a Chinese ally -- Chiang Kai-shek, of the Republic of China -- to go to Taiwan and accept the surrender of the Japanese troops stationed there. In legal terms, MacArthur's order created an agency arrangement for the military occupation of Taiwan: The United States being the principal occupying power, with Chiang Kai-shek's ROC troops fulfilling the role of a subordinate occupying power.

Then in late 1949 a large number of high-ranking officials of the ROC fled to occupied Taiwan from the mainland, thus becoming a government in exile.

In the post war San Francisco Peace Treaty of April 28, 1952, Japan renounced the sovereignty of Taiwan without specifying a receiving country. The Sino-Japanese Peace Treaty of August 5, 1952, confirmed these arrangements.

In other words, from 1945 to the present, there are no international treaties or other legal documents which can show that the territorial sovereignty of Taiwan has ever been transferred to the ROC. Without any such proof of transfer, the ROC on Taiwan merely remains as (1) a subordinate occupying power, and (2) a government in exile.

There has been no change in this status to date. Hence, the ROC on Taiwan has "no territory." With "no territory" the ROC on Taiwan cannot be considered an independent sovereign nation.

(The issue of what country is actually holding the territorial title to Taiwan is a separate matter. However, it is certainly not the PRC.)

it is de facto an independent country. it has all the attributes of an independent country. it has all the branches of government. it has its own police forces and its own army. it is a fully functioning country. it is also "unofficially" recognized by many countries in the world. as a matter of fact, it is not anyhow different from any other independent country other then not being officially recognized.

i think that the Chinese (the Chinese Chinese, that is) should not press the issue too hard. i think that the unification is possible but it should happen based on a free will, it should not be based on threats. if it ever happens then it should happen like it happened between the Eastern and the Western Germanies (when both sides wanted the same). if, however, the Taiwanese do not want to unite with China then it is better to leave it as it is. the use of military force in my opinion would be just plain crazy.

Taiwan is technically not independent because the communists drove the nationalists there. The PRC is actually controlling Taiwan by sucking up its cash flow.

NO its not
part of China

Taiwan is independent. It is a nation whether the US/China/France/UK/Russia like it or not- if their citizens want to visit Taiwan they'll need a Taiwanese visa. And if their in Taiwan then they are under the law of Taiwan. So there.

And yes, Chinese people should keep mouths shut. They should be more concerned with their own problems (human rights, pollution, aids, inflation) rather than repeating the bs taught by the CCP.

And the unification issue is moot. Why disgrace yourself and devolve into a province/SAR when your already a nation? It makes no sense whatsoever.

Yes the republic of China (Taiwan) is independant.

The only thing is that the Peoples republic of China (Mainland China) doesn't recognise it as so.

def. yes!! taiwan is an independent country! we got conditions to be a country. and i'm sick sick sick of people who says taiwan is a part of that god d**n china!!

dont be so frickin racist cause im chinese and i noe dat taiwan is independent. chinese r communist and the taiwanese broke free of china so dat means they arent part of china. well look at dat, i just proved u wrong.

One thing- just because you're Chinese doesn't mean you'll immediately say that Taiwan is part of China. It's a matter of perspective. Taiwan is not under ROC, they have never agreed to become a part of it and probably never will.

Taiwan is an Independent country, annexation ? no way...I support you to separate from china, be a nice country by your self. God bless you

We just want to have better life, don't care if Taiwan is independent or a part of China, don't care who is ruling.

Taiwanese have enough of DPP, corrupted president and officials.
