Using my Australian ATM card in Taiwan?

I am moving to Taiwan soon and was wondering whether I can use my Commonwealth Bank ATM card at ATMs in Taiwan. It has one of those cirrus logos on it. So if I have money in the account in Australian dollars when I withdraw some money in New Taiwanese dollars from an ATM in Taipei the ATM automatically converts the currency and deducts the correct amount of Aussie dollars?

Cheers.

Great stuff. Thanks for the help everyone. Cheers.

You are absolutely correct.

Look out for ATMs with the Cirrus logo and you can withdraw in local currency, but bear in mind each withdrawal will cost you transaction fee. Check with your bank for the fee.

If you are intending to stay in Taiwan for a long time, consider opening an account with an international bank here, transfer some money into this account for your monthly or half-yearly expenses so that you can save of multiple ATM transaction fees.

Correct. This is assuming that your ATM Card allows you to use it abroad. Since you're moving to Taiwan, best you open up a new account there so you can transfer your savings into a new account. It'll be much easier to have a local ATM Card in Taiwan since you're moving there. Also, there's no charge when transacting a local ATM Card in its native country.

they charge you interest, so the bank earns money. Its really expensive, just go to a normal bank in taiwan

I suggest you open a new bank account in Taiwan such as Chinatrust commercial bank (ATM also sets in 7-11 store), Bank of Taiwan,First bank,Taipei Fubon bank,Taishin bank.....etc

International ATM card with cirrus logo are accept in Taiwan,if use overseas card from any country will charge more fee.
