Is it true you find spiders and snakes at home or garden in Australia? also nearby the sea in Sydney?

My boss once got bitten by a funnelweb spider that slipped inside one of his shoes. Had to go straight to the hospital but was fine. It was his fault because he knows they live somewhere in his house and he shouldn't have left his shoes outside, spiders like warm and enclosed dark places.

You'll be more likely to find them in the northern suburbs of Sydney but are very rare.

yes but not always

I have been one month in Sydney and I didn't find any snakes.
Spiders neither, but I guess can be easier...
I found a lot of cockroach...

Spiders, yes. Most of them are harmless. If you look at your own home you will find spiders unless you are on Mars. Snakes, well I have seen one snake in the yard of a house in a large country town. It was a "green tree snake", not even poisonous and of no more concern than a bird. Most snakes have more sense than to go to Sydney.

You get the impression from nature documentaries that Australia is swarming with these things. Well they do that to keep you interested and watching. I have not seen a snake in nearly 20 years.

I'm 42 and I'm yet to see a live snake in the wild. Doesn't mean there not there its just they avoid human contact as much as we want to avoid them.
Spiders most are harmless all tho It pays to wear gloves when gardening just in case.

Hi,
I live on the northern beaches Sydney 400 metres from the beach. There are lots of spiders around where I live.To name a few that are in my back yard are:
Golden Orb Weaver, Garden Orb-Weaving Spider, St Andrews Cross Spider, Huntsman Spider, Black House Spider, White-tailed spider, Leaf-curling spiders and Ground spiders.

Most of them are harmless, but they can nearly scare you to death if they land on you. I like working in my garden so I am always walking into spider webs. My kids, husband and neighbours always know when I have a spider on me by my really really (((((LOUD)))) blood curdling scream. I even through myself into the swimming pool in the middle of winter when I had a Golden Orb Weaver on my shoulder.

I often have Huntsman Spiders inside my home, when I see one I get to climb onto the end of my broom and release it outside. But for all the spiders I have had on me I have never been bitten by one. I know there are snakes around in the bush nearby but I have to date not seen one.

Extra information:
I just remembered when I was near Warriwood shopping centre with 2 of my 3 kids for softball training. My 12 year old son went into the thick wet vegetation bush beside the playground to retrieve his ball and got bitten by a small python snake. I took him to the hospital and all turned out fine. "know harm done".

I hope I haven't put you off Sydney.
Sydney is a great place to live.

I go to Australia on business once or twice a year. The only thing I've noticed is they talk funny and the women are better looking then in the US.

I'm 21 and was born in Australia. I live in a coast town 1.5hrs south of Sydney, so its not city cbd lifestyle but its still quite populated.

I have NEVER seen a snake outside of a reptile park or zoo.

Yes we get spiders, your common household spider is non deadly and are usually tiny in size. The huntsman spider is about the size of your mouse, but it can not bite or poison humans. They are in fact more scared of us then we are of them. They are mostly outside in the gardens but can come inside through drains and build webs in the corners of your ceiling. They arent a pest and dont really concern us. You spray em or kill em and theyre gone.

Yes, and they have special appetites for loud USA people!

I've never seen a live snake just slithering around Sydney but then again i've never really looked for one. Spiders, Yes though. There are lots, but most aren't poisonous.

I have heaps of spiders... the only reason I don't wipe em out is because they kill the damn cockroaches that I can't seem to get rid of lol.... they are mostly daddy-long-leg spiders... one in my kitchen corner, one in my laundry and one in our ensuite bathroom near the shower... they live there and as long as they don't bug me, I don't bug them.....

Spiders... yes. But they're rare to me.

Snakes... no. Sydney's outskirts are surrounded by national parks though where there are tiger snakes and red-bellied blacks etc.

The environment of a city makes it unsuitable for snakes to live in.
