Moving to St. John's, any information?

I'm moving to St. John's in September to study at Memorial University. Read alot about the city, hear alot about the people. Just want to know how life would be like for a 23 year old girl, and how soon people accept you? What can I do in weekend? and any other experience.

p.s. I'm from one of the biggest capital cities in the world with more than 7 million population, but there's nothing good about it for me!

I specially need help about safety in St. John's for a girl my age. Because the city I live in can be very unsafe even in the middle of the day! So this is a huge concern for me.

No entertainment? Simpletons? Are you kidding?

I lived in St. John's for over 30 years and studied at Memorial for four. I still return to St. John's at least twice a year.

St. John's is a fabulous city. And there is lots to do. What you find to do will of course depend on your interests. The city is absolutely safe in the day time.

st. john's is beautiful, you'll love it there. i went there for 3 weeks on vacation last summer and i didn't want to leave.. as far as entertainment goes, there is barely any.. but everyone is very friendly and generous. lots of seniors, but that isn't always a problem. it is relatively safe, but there is a lot of poverty, but not dangerous poverty like you find in toronto or scarbourogh, just simpletons.

Ok, first of all...there is NOT a lot of poverty in St. John's. If you are an outdoors person than there is a lot to do in and around St. John's (hiking and watersports are very popular here). If you are coming to go to university, than you should have no trouble finding people that will accept you. I'm sure you've heard that newfoundlanders are very friendly, and you will meet a very diverse crowd of people at Memorial. It is a very safe city and crime is very rare. Night life is excellent if you are into that on the weekends. The weather here is not the greatest and can be very unpredictable, get used to a lot of snow in the winter. Also, the scenery all around the province is beautiful!

If you want to know anything else, don't hesitate to ask!

I hope you enjoy your time here.
