South African question?

A meaningless question that I have often wondered about, can any South African tell me why "Soda Water" in South Africa has the same selling price as all other soft drinks such as Coke, Fanta and numerous others?
I don't understand how they can be sold at the same price when the cost to produce must certainly be less due to fewer ingredients and a shorter manufacturing process?
Is it just another rip off?

DarthVader - Makes sense, I think the S.A. whiskey drinkers would disagree on the "demand" for Soda Water though, myself included.

I think it has to do with demand and production. Not as many people drink soda water and to set up a line to produce it actually cost the same. To add the sugary and flavour bits, are actually a very small component in the production process.

Hahaha And why do the smaller can's cost more than the bigger cans? If we are paying so much for the packaging, then make the smaller cans out of plastic?

I have also wondered the same thing...will be interested in the answers...

I just have no idea Bull and I have been thinking of the same. One could argue that the process of making soda and soft drinks takes about the same amount of water and the process to clean the water content is the same for all soft drinks. The colorant and flavouring should reduce the cost somewhat. Would be interesting to post the question to one of the companies producing soft drinks.

okay now i feel like the village idiot! i never even thought about it, okay maybe because i don't buy soda water..

good Q Bull!

Very good question indeed .......we have been ripped off for years......klomp skelms! Fortunately i do not drink soda water with anything.

Wow, never thought about that either....

Interesting

HA HA HA ,so then you should use a different mix with your whiskey as it will be better value for you money ! Good one Bull ! Even if soda was for free I'll stick to my Richelieu and coke thank you !

I agree with you, the price of soda water is also expensive overseas. I do not know but I tend to agree with Darth, I think its all the heavy drinks that get mixed, such as scotch, etc....and its yet another reason for them to capitalize on it....
