Should South Africa host the World Cup..?

Do you think that South Africa should host The World Cup now that the workers have gone on strike and the electricity supply cannot be guarenteed and with the high crime rate and AIDS AND CORRUPTION AND ITS ANTI-WHITE RACISM.
What do you think?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080213/sp_...

I still think we should. The optimist in me remembers how the whole country came together for the Rugby World Cup in '95. I'd like to believe that we can do that again. I hope that working towards the goal will unite people.

If you had been at any of the parties when it was announced you would have been overcome by the euphoria and you would believe it to be possible too. I think that it will be a lot of hard work but the people want it and I think that will eventually cause the government to get their butts into gear and tackle the problems. I'd hate to be there if the government pulls out of it ...

All of this is internal politics and as I don't live there, I can only hope that things get better. In terms of there seemingly on going support for that *anker in Zimbabwe, that should be reason enough for them not to hold the world cup.

What happens now if we turn back? Won't it be worse. China is having the Olympics.... need I say more? As long as we can have it we should have it!!!!

Let's not forget that Nazi Germany also hosted the Olympics, Argentina the World Cup....etc etc.

I don't think they should.

However, its not about what I think.

No No and No.....

Despite all that unfortunately, we will host the 2010 World Cup, but the question should be just how much of a success it will be - i think it will be a disaster but lol you can't argue with officials

Since you feel everything is bad in SA can't we at least have 1 good thing happening.
Don't you think we need a break?

Well I hope so at least they will be doing something to better the electricity supply until then .........or I hope so

No.
The only winners in the 2010 World Cup are going to be the local savage criminals who will have easy targets in the form of unsuspecting and idealist tourists, who are not remotely prepared for the savagery and violent crime that has gripped South Africa since 1994.
The event will at least be an opportunity to enlighten the world as to the ineptitude of the ANC government and the total failure of majority rule in Africa as a whole.
Any person promoting the event and encouraging tourists to flock to South Africa will have the blood of the innocent on his or her hands.

Answering from a sporting perspective the answer is 'NO" for many reasons. Firstly it is too far away from the main footballing centre i.e. Europe for fans to travel. Secondly it does not have nor will it have the infrastructure to host a Tournament of this magnitude i.e Roads,Transport,Accommodation etc and not forgetting Stadia. Thirdly it is rife with violent crime which the ANC and FIFA are covering up overseas and many innocent people will become victims through disinformation and ignorance. The AIDS problem is massive and now they want to legalise prostitution which will lead to spreading of the disease and possibly an epidemic in other Countries. You do not mention the XDR TB which is rampant and being covered up by the ANC. The WHO had to send experts to South Africa less than a year ago because the non-treatment was a threat to the outside World. You mention electricity but FIFA have in their conditions that each Stadium has to have 2 back up generators. Great but what about outside of the Stadia? Will people wander around in the dark and how safe will that be especially when some Stadia are built on the fringes of Townships. The standard of Policing is ridiculously poor and even statements like "30,000 extra Police" are meaningless as it means another 30,000 useless and corrupt bodies on the streets. The ANC and the Tourist Industry are not treating the event as a sporting event.Everything I have read or seen about it can largely be put into the category of "Time to make money." They plan to double the price of everything for Foreign Passport Holders and are punting things like Safaris completely oblivious to the fact that European football fans are working class and have no interest in wild animals etc and neither do they have the money to afford extravagances. They want to watch football and have a good piss up afterwards. Their so called football team,Bafana Bafana, are a joke and rated around 75 in the World. The World Cup is meant to be about the best 32 teams in the World and their only reasonable expectation can be to collect some autographs of some of the World's best players.
Lastly the ONLY reason the Tournament is being held there is on the back of corruption between Blatter of FIFA and the ANC. Blatter solicited the African vote to re-elect him President of FIFA in return for awarding South Africa the World Cup.The ANC arranged this and guaranteed other African Countries a "share" in the windfall. Listen to the continuous statements from the voice of the ANC,Jordan, punting the likes of Zimbabwe as "training camps for England" etc.
I am still not convinced it will happen there as there has been huge pressure on Blatter from UEFA members for many reasons. It will be no train smash for FIFA to move it as Countries like England,Germany and the US could host it at the drop of a hat. The real problem seems to be the amount of bribery and corruption between Blatter and the ANC and how does he get out of it without being exposed. The ANC will provide answers to him over the next 12 months. They have started with electricity and next it will be Water,Sanitation, poor Health facilities and probably Stadia.

Well, with of without support, South Africa will.. My personal opinion is NO. I am from SA and cannot see that anything on the crime side will change, and at the end the citizens of SA will suffer....

Your additional details have really put me off...

What is wrong with you people and colour, hey?

To be able to have it in South Africa, and everything run smoothly and professionally, would be wonderful. However, I have to agree with Afls post and add more.

How embarrassing will it be if it end up in a shambles? Which, lets face it is highly likely, given the fact that the entire country is in a mess. A REAL mess. I don't believe the infrastructure and the know-how, and ability to stop crime on visitors and teams is possible.

My daughter returned from London a few weeks back and her suitcase had been opened at the airport, despite the fact it had been "wrapped", the lock was broken, and clothes and her Ipod were stolen. Will this be the first "greeting" the overseas teams and visitors have to South Africa?

Never mind the Electricity problems, and the accommodation and venues not being ready. No, I think it should be moved. And quickly.

Yes Chris for the simple reason to open there eyes
