Pioneer Spirit has gone in South Africa?

When my great-great grandfather first went to South Africa as a blacksmith, he lived in a tent. He built a foundry (the Boer blew it up) but made his fortune on the reefs. He endured endless hardships and a war and by all accounts never complained, although he did not have a high opinion of Oom Paul.... LOL!!!
Anyway, instead of doomsaying and moaning, where has our pioneer spirit gone? A fuel crisis and we are all whinging.I am sure the old generation would have just kept quiet and gone out and bought a generator.
Has the modern generation (regardless of race or origins) gone soft? Have we become spoilt by a way of life that is superficial and also is leading to the destruction of the planet?

I am a proud South African and will always stay one. However, I find it increasingly difficult to keep quiet about all the drama that is unfolding in our country. Taxi's ruin your mornings going to work, and certain people in the work place think it is there for their amusement. Regardless of all of this, I still keep my head up high and keep looking forward to a future where South Africa is a stable country, with ample electricity supply, sufficient water quality levels and a country where people can feel safe wherever and whenever.

I am looking forward to a country where no man is afraid of another man and where expertise is rewarded instead of skin colour. For goodness sake, we are 14 years into the democracy, and still our government wants us to believe that the effects of Apartheid are still visible.

I am not a racist, I would just like to highlight the facts, many of the poor people that were promised houses before the 1994 election still have not received anything from our 'great' government, and still they sit in their poverty, 14 years later, still having the possessions they had way back then.

On the up side, many white people have lost their jobs because of affirmative action. Many of these people were forced to make their own living by either going overseas or starting their own businesses. So I say that many people are still trapped in the vicious cycle of poverty and constricted by their environments, but there are also many people who have found a way to live with their circumstances and have found a way to improve it.

So, I am sure if I say that, have those people not had the 'pioneering spirit' they would not be where they are now!

Probably packed its bags and left with the 1.2 million highly skilled and productive whites that have done the same.

Mj ......what do you think power a generator? Fanta Orange? What do you think the Pioneers would have done today ......they would have hunted the criminals down and kill them one by one, hanging the dead bodies in the squares of the towns ...........................

I think todays challenges are far greater than yesteryear, with todays problems and "challenges" such as technology, politics, BEE, AA, EE, ANC crime, sports representation, power crisis, water crisis, education - this though could be seen as the pioneer spirit because most manage to survive and those that see no appreciation in their purpose or a future in their contribution pack their bags.

We have become reliant on electrical appliances and modern technology. It makes life easier and the pace is fast and everything must be done now.
If you do not have the money to afford a generator what do you do? Most of us will complain.
I organised that there is a small gas stove ready to boil water or heat food. Candles and a good torch in every bedroom.
We play cards and have good conversations. Love sitting outside and look at the stars.
The problem is there and we can not fix the problem. The people in charge are aware of the fact that they are not popular and they must face the consequences.
At least some good jokes are floating around.
If a traffic officer stops you for a faulty light, just tell him you are doing loadshedding.

Good for you if you want to be living in a tent. You wouldn't survive a day...

The pioneers became pioneers because they could not live amidst the corruption and oppression of their new masters.
Now that the ANC have brought their toilet into everybodies lounge and polluted the whole country with their terrorist mentallity, where your children arn't safe and your women are targets and your way of life continually attacked, it is time to move on again.
The corruption that Mandela and his gang of ANC terrorist, have brought to my country is incomparable to anything that any civillized person can endure.
But tell me, MJ, do your lies and propaganda get you a lot of free dinners and free drinks on your travels and lots of sympathy for how bad the whites were to your people, I have met many of your ilk and found you all to be nothing more than sympathy sluts out for a free ride at the expense of an uninformed and ignorent world.
As for you Zim$ you are just small change, your comments are worth about as much as your currency, you hide away from the truth because then you would have to admit that life under the National party and white ruled Apartheid was far better that anything that you have now , unless, of course, if you were a criminal then we can understand why you love the state of total anarchy that is now South Africa so much.
The problem with your lies is that they are lies and no matter how important you feel while you spew them to anyone who will listen and no matter that it lets you bask in the limelight of your own corruption you will allways be a white hating, lying little scumbag allurgic to any form of truth, like the rest of your politicised, ANC pimp brothers.
Forward the revolution forward the white homeland, but when we do get our homeland who the furk will you blame then?
Question: What did South Africa have before candles?
Answer: Electricity
