Black wood/Swarthout?

Last night I heard/or was told that Swarthout/Black wood is not an indigenous wood but actually an Australian wood that is imported to SA? Do you know if this is true or can you give me more info?

It's scientific name is Acacia melanoxylon.
It is also called Black Wattle in SA.
It is an Australian species.
It is a declared noxious weed in SA because it is highly invasive.

Well turning it into furniture is actually a good idea - furniture does not reproduce! LOL It is a beautiful wood.
