Pessimism in South Africa why?

In response to the recent controversy here in Yahoo SA.
Do you ever get the feeling that even if South Africa had 0 crime, the highest GDP, the highest quality of life, 0 unemployment and a cure for HIV (but a democratic government) people would still find a reason to moan and belittle the country?

I do not deny the problems and challenges that South Africa faces but I think that fundamentally it is because these people mourn the passing of white supremacy and cannot be gracious enough to accept that a non-white supremacist South Africa could be as good as their "old one". Even when I post hard facts from well established and respected think tanks and polls like Gallup International people seek to deny this..... I think it is here that they show their true colours (if you pardon the pun).

Any thoughts.....?

IQ by race, that's straight out of the 70's or even before as no respectable academic would touch it with a barge poll. You obviously worship that map everyday. Answer me this, How come people in Turkey are less intelligent than the Caucasus? How come Australia is at the bottom of with Sub Saharan Africa... previously you said Aborigines I believe, but they are only about 2% of the population....

People will always find something to moan about, its just the way human nature works. As, for South Africa, I love the place so much. Im longhaul cabin crew and a lot of the guys I work with refuse to do the London to Cape Town route, so I normally get landed with it every other week - get to stay there for two nights aswell!

nope, i think people wouldn't be pessimistic then. the pessimism is more a sadness as they know what potential RSA has... be it under black or white rule.

why do you think so many people stayed after 1994? they had hope for this country - their country - and wanted it to work out.

Pessimism seems to have been vindicated by recent power shortages, indicative of incompetence and mis-management. Adverse affects of affirmative action will slowly bring the county down. ANC showing first signs of internal melt-down. Unfortunately this is the reality.

South Africa economic system is crashing and failing to pay any attention to it is like adding fuel to fire. South Africa is under " black rule " The goverment is after one thing and that is self inrichment the ministers and parliment mp's is not qualified to be in the potition they are. But aint it typical South Africa is just becoming like a ordinary African country.

Why is it that the whole african continent come to a standstill when the rest of the world was moving into a new era. look back in the midevil times people had clothes there was castles, fortresses than guns.

And in the 1600 when the 1st Europeans set foot to South Africa, There was still nothing but blacks with spears , i mean they didnt even had ships or anything, ther was no intelligence!!

Maybe people are pessimistic because everyone has lost since the blacks took control of the nation. The % of population in poverty has risen, violent crime is among the highest in the world, and now the country is losing electricity. The government is CHEERING ABOUT IT saying that its a sign of good economic growth... Only an ANC goon believes like you do. Everything is getting worse and you have your head in the sand bragging about how those evil mean whites are being driven out by the BEE and crime. Congrats on celebrating the eventual destruction of South Africa and its arrival to a collapsed state like Zimbabwe. Maybe you should move in with uncle Bob.
Not only that but the government is hopelessly corrupt with the arms deal players and the plethora of indictments of Zuma. Thats not mentioning the other major criminals running the government. If the blacks were able to run South Africa competently, people wouldn't be complaining. Too bad they are vindicating all these "racist" beliefs with their incompetence and criminal behavior. Guess thats the legacy of apartheid too right?

Your problem is that you dont understand the meaning of the word democracy otherwise you would acknowledge that robust debate forms the central core of such Democracies. Your chosen route is to label people as "White supremists" if they happen to comment on the incompetence of a corrupt and vile regime.
I have yet to see you post any "hard facts" with links or references to your posts yet when I do you get in a rage and denial without posting any counter argument other than personal attacks. I assume you accept DNA evidence so tell me why you cannot accept similar evidence when it refers to intelligence and not physiology?

MJ - Professor Lynn's book was published in 2006 and his research is extremely modern. If you page down to Contents you will see the findings for Australians was based on Indigenous Australians and not those of European descent. Read the Book "Race Differences in Intelligence" and maybe you can answer your other question. I am not going to do your research for you. Lynn's theories and findings carry the support of a number of respected Academics including a Black Professor at the London School of Economics. Of course the Pinko Liberal bunny huggers are jumping up and down at the very thought their may be IQ differences according to Race but I dont see,read or hear of any counter research and theories from them.

Ag I am so gatvol of all these "Doom & Gloom preachers" on this place. There are a lot of genius wannabees on this place. Like I say I am gatvol and moerig. I think it is an Afrikaner thing to be so pessimistic, my parents are like that and my grandparents were like that............the crops are going to fail, there is no rain coming blah blah blah.............Oh and I am also an Afikaner so this is not a "racistic comment"

I am not a pessimist but I am not one to put my head in the sand. I have never condemned SA for any reason based on race. I have said before that in the "Old days" the country was just as dangerous.( though the further you go back the less this applies). A lot of people here have had family members killed and feel that by ignoring this does them an injustice.
Your newspapers are full of murders and Farmer killings and to compare it to anywhere else is just plain stupid.
So, no I'm not pessimistic about everything but don't get me going about violence.
