What is the cost of things in singapore commpare to the things in the U.S.?

Things in Singapore is much cheaper than in the US. All prices stated in Singapore are inclusive of taxes unless otherwise stated and prices in US does not include taxes unless otherwise stated. For an example, a meal in Macdonald's hovers around US$7 (S$10.15) in US while in Singapore, a same meal just hovers around S$6 (US$4.20). But if you purchase a car, thats the direct opposite as US is more cheaper than Singapore caused US doesn't have COE (Certificate of Entitlement) while Singapore is compulsory to have one in order to own a car.

Your cost of living will depend on your lifestyle. The greatest cost differences are:
- electricity - mainly due to the usage of air conditioners. For our 3 bed apartment we pay SGD$450 a month as we have the air con running most of the day
- red meat - approx SGD$25 - 30 per kilo
- alcohol - cheap wines start at SGD$20 per bottle (these are the ones that only cost a few dollars back home)
- Groceries - depends on what you eat. Buying at wet markets is cheap, but if you want salad, a variety of fruits, cheeses, fresh pasta, deli meats etc these are expensive.

As I assume you will be an expat there are a few other things that will affect your costs:
- Rent - prices have been going north for the last year. In popular areas it's not uncommon to find rentals having doubled.
- Medical - as you're not a local you pay for everything. Best to get corporate health insurance.
- Education - any international school will charge from SGD$20k per year per child.

Although it may seem all doom and gloom, it's not too bad; and you do adjust to the prices.

Some things are cheaper in Singapore than in the U.S. and some things are not. For e.g clothing is extremely expensive here.

very very expensive
