What is the bricked up archway in Sheffield between Chesterfield Rd and Woodbank Cres.?

there is a steep hill with a small garden type thing on top, some steep steps up the right hand side and a large bricked up archway into the side of the hill. It is just a little square of land between houses.

the railway line is a few hundred metres away at the bottom of the hill so i dont think its a railway tunnel. its also too small, its only small bricks so its not a supporting railway arch and too small for a train.

its got a small gateway in the wall along the footpath that is also bricked up.

During the Great Sheffield Plague in 1876, there were so many bodies they could not get them buried,so they just bricked them up in a railway arch. The men are on the right and the women on the left.

Could it be an old canal tunnel, there used to be lots of them around.
