Is Dammam, Suadi Arabia an open city? thanks!?

well Saudi Arabia isnt an open tourist country and we do live by or morals and by Islam, but having said this.. The country is relaxing a lot somewhat since the new King Abdullah took over.. Things are getting better and better by the days..
Dammam is an old city and there are a lot of people residing there steeped into their old customs and havent thought of changing yet.. You will find a mix of traditional arabs who hold tight to customs and the more new modern western thinking youth that are more open minded... I see many women arabs and westerners a like now walking through the markets, and the malls dressing concervativly, but not wearing the traditional black abaya... Things are changing.. You still have to observe the laws though.. No mingling of the sexes, do dating, flirting and no dressing obsurdly.. Women do need to dress appropriately and cover up.. And women still cant drive, but that doesnt limit us from hopping a taxi and going where we please..
Visit Al-Khobar the town just South of Dammam.. its much more open minded due to the Aramco oil company and all the American employees residing there, you'll find the residents of Khobar are used to these folks and majority speak english cause of it.. and its a hope skip and jump over to Bahrain through the water bridge from Khobar to Bahrain just about 30-40 min drive... They are open by the way..

nowhere in saudi arabia is open, women must be covered and cannot drive, you can't wear bikini's or anything showing alot of skin and you won't be respected unless you are wearing the national tobe, If you have ever heard of dubai (that's where I live) which is next door to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (Which is where dubai is situated in) is ALOT more open for tourists and just about anything goes...but you might wanna check a tourist guide just in case

;)

As I have visited 'open' and 'closed' societies in the . conventional sense. Nevertheless, I always found in the end that the openess or closness is in the heart of the person that visits the city and not in the city itself.
