My three friends and I are moving to San Diego in May, wheres a good place to live?

Three of us plan on getting waitressing jobs, but my one friend is an X-Ray tech and she needs to find a job at a hospital, we need to move somewhere that all of us will be able to get to work within 30 minutes or so. Any suggestions?

Also, where's the best areas to get waitressing jobs that we'll make decent tips?

I have to agree with the others that suggest Hillcrest. It has some of the best restaurants other than downtown and there is a Hospital within the area called Scripps Mercy Hospital.

In regards to find a place for rent there area alot of older apartments, but they certainly are well maintained and they have their own charm.

North Park is not too far, but is also known as a great area and there are plenty of restaurants there too.

Use http://www.wikipedia.com and type in San Diego neighbors to do a little research on some of the neighborhoods mentioned to you.

Good LUck!

Well, I would suggest Poway (Pomerado Hosp)...as there is a Hospital in Poway, there is also one in Escondido (Palomar Hosp)...Both are close enough that if you find affordable housing you all should be fine....Poway is a nice area...and some parts of Escondido is nice as well.
Ramona is agricultural and less expensive in rents...However, since the recent Oct Witch Creek Fires I am not sure housing is abundant anywhere in San Diego for a reasonable price. Restaurants in these 2 areas are abundant.........Good Luck to you 3...

My suggestion on where to look to live would be Little Italy, Hillcrest, or the Ocean Beach area. If you don't need to be close to downtown North county would be a good choice. Oceanside, Vista, Shadowridge, Fallbrook.

For waitress work the Gaslamp is the best bet. It's 4 sq. blocks of dining and entertainment. I have a few friends that work as waiters there and they do very well with their tips.

Good luck and welcome to the area. You are going to love it.

If I were you I'd try to live near Hillcrest.

It's a nice neighborhood with lots of restaurants and a hospital. It can be kinda pricey though. Also, it is the "gay neighborhood" of San Diego, but not exclusively. I'm not gay and I hang out there fairly often.

Hillcrest, Mission Hills, Clairemont, and Bay Park are all pretty centrally located, not too expensive, and generally nice neighborhoods. Living near the beaches is expensive, noisy, and crowded.

Hillcrest and downtown (Gaslamp Quarter) have some upscale and funky places to work as a waitress, and there are lots of bars and restaurants at the beaches (particularly Pacific Beach). There's also a large hospital (Scripps Mercy) in Hillcrest. And, there's a number of medical facilities and hospitals in the LaJolla area.

Everything I've mentioned above is all within about 20 minutes of each other.

The La Jolla/University City area is fairly affluent, has lots of restaurants and a young crowd due to nearby UCSD. There are plenty of hospitals right around there - Thornton, Scripps Memorial, Scripps Clinic. You're close to Del Mar and 10 minutes from Downtown where restaurants abound. Check out the 92122 Zip Code. With 4 people splitting rent you'll be fine.
