Has anyone been to St.Petersburg or Moscow?

Hi.i am planning on visiting Russia at the end of the year..i have heard so many rumors as to the saftey in traveling to these cities..i plan on taking the train tour that goes from Helsinki to Moscow, St. Petersburg and back to Helskinki..can some one who has been recently please let me know?

Lol, I really don't know where u heard that, but there really are no problems there, concerning tourists.
I've been there and everything seemed normal and just fine.
The train tour is great btw.

I use the overnight trains very often and have never had any problems. Just place your bags under your bed in the storage compartment at night.

We had a really great holiday in 2005, flew to Moscow & took a canal & river cruise up the Volga to St Petersberg stopping at interesting places en route. The locals were friendly. We then got a bus to Helsinki & flew home.We went in July & had warm sunny weather. In the winter it is B cold.
The cities are swarming with police so are pretty safe.

You're gonna have a blast!! those are some awesome and beautiful cities! Breathtaking!
Oh, and don't worry about safety. Just make sure you do reasonable things, don't be going to some dark streets at night by yourself.. as the saying goes 'God helps those who help themselves'.

Safety is really ok, don't worry about this :)

I took the Helsinki-Moscow train and this is a clean and brand new train ( but ok ... they use the newest they have, because this is Helsinki-Moscow Railway and that this train goes through Finand) . For example if you want to take the train from Moscow to Ekaterinburg, you will get the same kind of train ... but old and dusty inside LOL

St Petersburg is a very beautiful town where you can see the Hermitage and lots of other nice sights.

Moscow is amazing, big, gigantic ... beautiful and this is as safe as other city in the world : not too much, but if you take care, everything will be allright

st.petersburg is a great city to visit!!! think you will like it.
moscow.. i personally dont like it, it is dirty people are angry, reminds me nyc. but the historical part of it is good.
