What interesting sights can I visit in Southern France?

Bordeaux and the french basque country on the south atlantic coast of France...Carcassonne, Toulouse (Try nearby Albi where the Toulouse Lautrec home & museum is), Perpignan and the mediterranean area... Arles, N卯mes, Montpellier. .Avignon (with its famous bridge and semi-walled town center), Orange, Boll猫ne, .Aix-en Provence (sublime), Marseilles, all the small towns on the Cote d'Azur: Cannes, Nice, saint Paul-de Vence, Grasse (the perfume factories there are fantastic), Monaco.

All depends also where your starting point is...If you start from Paris...go south via the Autoroute du Soleil (A7)...and stop over in Lyon, one of the most beautiful cities in the country...from there to Grenoble at the foot of the french alps, then on down to Valence, Montelimar...and on to the towns already named above.

If you are going by car...look up the following website:

www.mappy.fr (there is an english version).

It will give you routes, distances, gas consumption, and even the placement of the speed traps on your way so you can avoid them! And at the right side of the page you will find a link with hotel listings for your route... Quite complete

Have a good trip!

The Parisites;) LOL

If you are in the Rhone region, check out Arles. It's a cute town with tons of Roman artifacts, including a great amphitheater and a fabulous museum. Plus, Van Gogh spent time there (it's where he cut his ear off) so there are lots of sites around town from his paintings. Not a ton of night life, but wonderful never the less. From Arles, you can take day trips to Orange, Nimes, Avignon, and the Chateuneuf de Papes wine region. All are great sites. Orange has the ancient Roman theater that they still use for opera performances, Nimes is a great town to stroll, shop, and eat in. You must go see the Pont du Gard, the giant aqueduct built across the Gardon river valley. It's breathtaking and the whole area around it is lovely.
