Which would be the best for holiday in New zealand?

north or south island..

In my opinon the South Island.....
I spent half my life there and 'been there done that' on most things. Since I lived in the south island (which is better anyhow) I鈥檒l give you some ideas鈥?

The climate is very nice in north island , the biggest cities is also there, auckland ( the economy capital) and Wellington (the political capital) but its more expensive than south island

you should note also that most international airlines choose auckland as their preffered destination in New Zealand.

By reverse south island is more cold but there are fantastic cities like christchurch.

It really depends a bit on how long you are going for, and what you actually want to do. Ideally see some of both. South is known for its spectacular scenery, and skiing in winter. But don't rule out the north. The tourism NZ website should be a good starting point.

it depends what you are looking for in a holiday. if you are looking for a relaxing holiday then the north island is best for you, my fav place is the bay of islands in the summer (Dec-Feb) so you can relax on the beach go fishing/boating, swim with dolpins, and then there is Auckland which is the largest city in nz surrounded by gourgous beachs.

if you are looking for adventure and scenery then the south island is the best for you and the best time to go is in winter (June-Aug) when the mountains are snowy, you can go white water rafting etc and and everything looks awesome queenstown is best for this

Oh my goodness - how long do you want to spend here? Two weeks will give you the basics in both islands. It's a little country with so much to see and do. There's an old saying about driving ... 'if you're still seeing the same scenery after an hour, you're driving in circles'.

Kayaking in gentle waters of Tasman Bay, Marlborough Sounds, Akaroa, Bay of Islands is fun too. Hang a fishing line on the kayak and catch dinner while you're having fun.

Try to do both islands. Landscape very different and both have their beauty. One must is blackwater rafting at Waitomo Caves in the Waikato, North Island. It got me out of a comfort zone and gives a real buzz. You can walk through caves to the underground river or abseil.

if you chose to visit during the summer than i would say the north island, however during winter , definitely the south island.

the north island has all sandy beautiful beaches.
The Bay of Islands is a awesome and very popular holiday destination in the north island. Swimming with dolphins, so many ocean activities such as scuba diving, kayacing,fishing etc Auckland and Wellington, the larger cities are great for shopping. Waiheke island not far from auckland is really beautiful as well.; heaps of nice beaches , restaurants and resorts. Rotorua which is further south is a great place to travel to if you are really interested in the native side of nz and our history.

South island is full of beautiful mountains, clear lakes; amazing scenery. heaps of snow and skiing during the winter season. unfortunately i grew up north island so i don't know as much about the south island..... sorry. still i think it is worth visiting both islands.
