I just recently did just that, so first; Google 'last minute deals' and there are several websites offering cheap deals.
Next, write down the hotels that look good to you, then look them up on trip advisor.com. This gives reviews by people that have been there. (We avoided a great 'deal' on a hotel that was actually really filthy and old by checking out this website).
