Baby born in new zealand? |
i live in the uk but want to go to new zealand, what wud happen if i was to go into labour while in new zealand? would i then be entilited to live in the country cuz my baby was born there? Until 2005 what you have suggested would have been the case. However, in 2005 the 'Citizenship Act' was amended to prevent this very situation from occurring. no the law is the same as here, as its a british commonwealth you would still need apply for a visa to live in nz. i hear its quite easy though if you are british and skilled. visit the nz embassy website in the uk. regards terry I think you'd have to apply for residency. My parents had me while out in south africa and they applied for residency. I think that's a great idea - manipulate your baby's birth in order to settle on the other side of the world! I should try that sometime too... No, sorry! :( No you would still need to apply for residency visa. Definite NO. Only the baby has automatic rights to NZ citizenship therefore can have NZ Passport. You will have to apply on your own merits. No. If you were a permanent resident at the time, you could apply for your child to get it too, but if you are there on holiday you have absolutely no rights at all. And you really shouldn't be taking such a long flight if you are near to your due date. You will have great difficulty getting travel insurance after 32 weeks of pregnancy. |
