Heading to Puerto Vallarta, have a couple questions for folks that have been already.?

We're heading to Puerto Vallarta in April and we're going to be staying at the Hacienda Hotel and Spa. Has anyone stayed there before and if so is it as nice as it looks? We've read mixed reviews but I'd like to hear from someone whos been there recently and see what they have to say about it. Also are there any fun bars there that anyone would recommend in the Downtown area?
Also is there anything that anyone would recommend avoiding while we're there?

As far as I've heard, the Hacienda is okay, although it could do with a paint job on the exterior.

Avoid Carlos O'Brian's/ Senor Frogs, it's an expensive tourist trap unless you really want a foam party. Avoid the timeshare sellers too.

De Santos is an great open air bar. Ztai is great as well, although they can both be pricey for PV.

They are both very laid back. Cheeky Monkey's on the Malecon does cheap beer/ deceptively strong margaritas which are great for 1 dollar each.

Zoo and Hilo are both good depending on the crowd.
Collage in the Zona Hotelera is a lot of fun.

Try the canopy tour or snorkel/dive Los Arcos. Take the water taxi to Yelapa... There's plenty to do...
