Is the water in Puerto Vallarta murky? Does that make for poor scuba and snorkling?

We're headed to Mexico in the month of August for our honeymoon and want to spend a lot of time in the water. Any advice?

Hello Andy

this is a good question !

Normally the water around Puerto Vallarta is very well for snorkeling or diving. Best areas are around Mismaloya, south shore. The beaches: Las Animas, Quimixto and Yelapa hae very clear water, several tours go to Yelapa especially.

For diving there are some tours to Los arcos, the three big rocks in the water close to Mismaloya. Including cliff diving is possible. Get in contact with Chicos dive shop. You will find it everywhere on the net. They can tell You exactly where to go.

But: Since June began the rainy period, that means that close to the smaller rivers the water becomes less clear.
This is bad for snorkeling in these areas.

If You know what You do You can fill up Your bottles with chicos and go to Boca de tomatlan in the south of Mismaloya. There You can contract the fisherman waiting on the beach to bring You where ever You want for a nice price.

Diving is also possible arround the Marietta islands, organized in tours.

Have a look to

there You find some information regarding the beaches including a map.

If You are located in Nuevo Vallarta see
http://www.nuevovallarta.de
for some information on that area.

There's a lot of trips to go to little islands near from there I mean near u can see them from the beach and it's very cool my dad and my brother love it and they spend all the time there. U can find this trips in Playa de los Muertos there's a lot of guys offering them but try to ask for better prices cuz when they see u like foreinger they want to sale it more expensive.
