Has anyone had an awful experience on vacation in Provence? |
i went there recently with my fiancee and we didn't enjoy it at all. The weather wasn't great, the food was average and a lot of the towns we visited were in disrepair or dirty. There were flies in all the restuarants and the locals were not as friendly as I thought they might be. The wine was great value and the scenery was beautiful in places, but all in all, it wasn't great. Anyone else have a similar experience? Provence is fabulous - what is there not to like about Aix, Marseille, Arles, the Camargue etc etc and inland to the mountains? Life's s what you make it. Provence? I had a dreadful time. Dreadful days on the beach while topless teenage girls played badminton. Swimming in the surf and emerging for hot caramelised peanuts. Eating oysters, snails and frogs legs. Drinking litre mugs of cold beer while the sun set. It was horrible. I wouldn't want to spend more than a few years doing that. Yeah. Inspector bloody Morse was there. Well, you must be unlucky as we were there end of Oct. Yes, the weather was cold and windy but very sunny during the day that we walked around with T-shirt. We rented a car and went to 10-12 villages which only 1-2 are not worth going. We had wonderful food and even went back twice to one restaurant! Are you sure you were in Provence? It is here that I live, and unfortunately I suppose that everything is not perfect. The only thing that I hated when I visited the Riviera was the weather! It was in the middle of June, but on the first day we arrived in Nice, it was windy, cloudy, then it rained, then it became cool. The next day, cloudy and cool. The third day, the day I just happened to have nothing to wear except for black clothes, it was NINETY FOUR DEGREES WITHOUT A CLOUD IN THE SKY (I still remember the temperature even though this happened three years ago). The last four days were sunny, windy, and warm during the day, but cool as the evening apporached. |
